Following this trend, India is also heavily investing in airport infrastructure. The largest ongoing project in the country is the new Noida Airport, which promises to revolutionize aviation and improve connectivity in the region.
The New Airport That Promises To Transform Aviation In India
The Noida International Airport is being built in the city of Jewar, in Uttar Pradesh, and will be the largest in the country. The project arose as a solution to relieve the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, which is already operating at its capacity limit.
The new airport is being developed by Flughafen Zürich AG and built by Tata Projects, one of the largest engineering companies in India. With an investment of over US$ 825 million (US$ 654 million), it is expected to be operational by April 17, 2025.

Impressive Structure And Capacity
With a total area of 1,334 hectares, the new airport will have four terminals and six runways. Once fully completed, it will have the capacity to accommodate 70 million passengers per year, surpassing renowned airports such as Frankfurt in Germany.
The project also includes state-of-the-art infrastructure to ensure the best experience for passengers. There will be modern terminals, ample parking, efficient access roads, and direct connection to public transport networks, making travel fast and accessible.
Progress Of Works And Opening Forecast
The construction of the new airport is being overseen by NIAL, which has provided a recent update on the progress of the work. According to Shailendra Bhatia, major infrastructures such as potable water lines, sewage treatment plants (STPs), and water treatment plants (WTPs) are nearing completion.
On the land side, which includes terminals, access roads, parking lots, and transport connections, 79% of the construction has been completed. On the air side, which includes runways, taxiways, and aircraft parking areas, 89% of the work has been completed. With this accelerated pace, the inauguration next year seems guaranteed.
