The Brazilian automotive retail ranking saw changes in the partial data for March 2026.
As of March 11, the Volkswagen Polo was leading among the best-selling passenger cars to final consumers, with 4,417 units.
Following it, the Hyundai HB20 totaled 3,860 registrations.

In the same survey, the BYD Dolphin Mini, which had ended February in the first position, fell to eighth place, with 2,709 units.
The data comes from Fenabrave and was initially published by WM1.
This change is significant as it occurs right after the BYD electric hatch’s lead in February.
At the close of that month, the Dolphin Mini recorded 4,810 units in retail, ahead of the Volkswagen Tera, with 3,856, and the Hyundai Creta, with 3,597.
In that scenario, the HB20 occupied ninth place, with 2,559 registrations, far from the top positions.
Retail Ranking in March 2026

At the beginning of March, the ranking looked different.
The partial survey placed the Polo in first, followed by HB20 and Tera.
Next, Fiat Mobi, Volkswagen T-Cross, Fiat Argo, and Hyundai Creta followed.
The Dolphin Mini appeared in eighth, outside the top three positions in the data up to March 11.
This movement alters the configuration seen in the previous month.
In February, retail leadership had been with the Dolphin Mini, while the HB20 only appeared in ninth place.
Now in the March partial data, the Hyundai hatch moved to second place, and the BYD electric lost ground in the ranking.
Performance of BYD Dolphin Mini in Comparison

The fluctuation of the Dolphin Mini becomes clearer when the two periods are compared.
In February, the model ended the month leading, with 4,810 units sold in retail.
In the partial data for March up to the 11th, it dropped to the eighth position, with 2,709 registrations.
The February results had placed the BYD car at the top of the Brazilian retail market that month.
Industry publications, based on data from Fenabrave, also indicated that the model led the total sales for January and February among passenger vehicles sold to final consumers, with 7,606 units, ahead of the Volkswagen Tera, with 7,521, and the Hyundai Creta, with 7,501.
Hyundai HB20 Rises in Retail

While the Dolphin Mini fell in the partial ranking, the HB20 showed the opposite movement.
The Hyundai hatch rose from the ninth position in February, when it totaled 2,559 units, to second place in March, with 3,860 registrations by March 11.
This advancement placed the model back among the top sellers in retail.
Additionally, the March partial data indicated a recovery for the HB20 compared to its performance in the previous month, when the car still trailed models like Dolphin Mini, Tera, Creta, Song, Tracker, and Polo.
How the Ranking of Best-Selling Cars Changed
The comparison between February and the partial of March shows that the change was not limited to two models.
At the close of February, the top 3 in retail consisted of Dolphin Mini, Tera, and Creta.
However, in the data up to March 11, the top three positions were occupied by Polo, HB20, and Tera.
At the same time, the Creta fell to seventh, and the Dolphin Mini dropped to eighth.
Additionally, other models entered the top ranks, such as Mobi, T-Cross, and Argo, which were not in the top 3 the previous month.
As a result, the ranking reflects a different distribution of sales at the beginning of March.
The analysis indicates a reorganization of positions in retail, with a greater presence of hatches and compact cars among the top spots at that time of the month.
Difference Between Closed Month and Partial Sales
To interpret the numbers, the distinction between the periods is central.
The leadership of the Dolphin Mini refers to the complete close of February.
Meanwhile, the rise of Polo and HB20, along with the decline of the BYD model, appears in a partial data of March limited to registrations recorded up to March 11, 2026.
This difference prevents inaccurate comparisons between a closed month and a survey still ongoing.
Nevertheless, the partial data already indicated a significant change in the order of best-selling cars in retail, presenting a scenario different from that seen just a few weeks earlier.
Furthermore, the data reinforce how model positions can vary from month to month, especially when observing the market over short windows.
In February, the Dolphin Mini led retail and was ahead of the main competitors.
In the following partial, Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai HB20 took the top two positions, while the BYD electric dropped to eighth.
What the Numbers Show So Far
The comparison between the two surveys indicates that March started with a different configuration than that observed at the close of February.
The Dolphin Mini left the lead and fell to eighth place in the data up to March 11.
Conversely, the HB20 rose from ninth place to second, just behind the Polo.
The data available up to that point shows, therefore, a significant change in the automotive retail ranking.
On one hand, the BYD model lost positions compared to the previous month.
On the other hand, the Hyundai hatch gained ground and entered the competition for the top positions early in March.
