Emergency Landing in Campos Amarais After Bird Strike on Small Plane
Technical Failure Caused Immediate Return to Pampulha Airport
According to information gathered by TV Globo, the twin-engine aircraft with registration PR-SJL took off from Pampulha Airport at 11:20 a.m. for a maintenance flight.
During the flight, the crew identified a failure in the landing gear, an essential component for safe landing.
In light of the issue, the pilots immediately communicated with air traffic control.
Thus, as a safety measure, they decided to abort the flight and return to Belo Horizonte, characterizing the emergency landing.
King Air C90A Aircraft Carried Six People
At the time of the incident, six people were aboard the King Air C90A, including crew members and mechanics.
The model is widely used in executive aviation for its versatility, range, and capacity for corporate and private flights.
Despite the scare, there were no reports of injuries. Shortly after the aircraft came to a complete stop, all occupants were able to exit without medical assistance.
Aircraft Rolled Over After Touching Down
Aerial images recorded by Globocop showed the moment the aircraft rolled over sideways shortly after touching the runway.
The rollover occurred already in the final phase of the landing procedure, which reinforces the preventive actions of the crew.
Airport teams were alerted immediately after the incident.
Additionally, the teams implemented emergency protocols to ensure the safety of the area and avoid further operational risks.
Closed Runway Suspended Operations at Terminal
Due to the incident, the runway at Pampulha Airport remained closed until early afternoon.
During this time, landings and takeoffs were suspended for the removal of the aircraft and assessment of operational conditions.
It is worth noting that the terminal does not operate regular commercial flights. Currently, the airport is designated for air taxi and executive aviation, which minimized broader impacts on the air network of the capital of Minas Gerais.
Aircraft Registration Is Regular with Anac
According to the Brazilian Aeronautical Registry (RAB), the King Air C90A is in good standing with the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac).
The aircraft has a Valid Airworthiness Certificate (CVA) until December 18, 2026.
Manufactured in 2003, the model can carry up to seven passengers and is registered in the name of businessman Jorge Landaeta, according to official data.
Incident Reignites Debate About Safety in Executive Aviation
Although there were no casualties, the episode reinforces the importance of safety protocols in executive aviation.
Aircraft in this segment frequently conduct maintenance flights and technical tests, which require rigorous monitoring of onboard systems.
Experts emphasize that the crew’s quick decision-making and effective communication with air traffic control were critical in preventing more serious consequences during the emergency landing at Pampulha Airport.
