Rio Grande do Sul is on its way to becoming a new hub for the semiconductor industry in Brazil, and now, the Tellescom Group announced on Tuesday (25) the arrival of a new semiconductor factory. The company, which already has a unit in Manaus, is betting on Rio Grande do Sul to expand its business in the microelectronics sector, especially in the encapsulation and testing of semiconductors aimed at the automotive industry, the Internet of Things (IoT), and wireless communication.
New Semiconductor Factory Will Have 10,000 Square Meters
The project in the semiconductor industry has been under study for about two years and involves an investment that could range from US$ 170 million to US$ 200 million, which, when converted to our currency, would exceed R$ 1 billion.
The new semiconductor factory, expected to be installed in an area of 10,000 square meters, will have the capacity for expansion with more modules, allowing the company to increase its production according to market demands.

The decision to choose Rio Grande do Sul as a semiconductor industry hub was influenced by the state’s historical expertise in the chip area, which includes the performance of the now-defunct Ceitec, a state-owned company focused on research and development in the sector.
Furthermore, Rio Grande do Sul has a program focused on semiconductor production coordinated by the Secretariat of Innovation, Science and Technology (SICT), which aims to consolidate the production chain and encourage digital entrepreneurship in the state.
This institutional support, combined with the concentration of local technical knowledge, were important factors for Tellescom to choose Rio Grande do Sul as the base for its new factory.
Tellescom Closes Commitment with Invest RS for Semiconductor Industry
The investment in the semiconductor industry in Brazil is strategic, especially after the chip shortage that impacted the global industry during the pandemic, highlighting the importance of having nearby suppliers and a more diversified and secure production chain.
With the growing demand for technologies such as autonomous vehicles and smart city solutions, Brazil is seeking to attract more investments to secure a strategic position in this market, and the new semiconductor factory promises to boost the sector.
Tellescom has already formalized its commitment to Rio Grande do Sul through an engagement agreement with the state government’s investment attraction agency, Invest RS. The signing took place during a visit from the Gaucho delegation to Malaysia, where the company is also negotiating to advance the project.
According to Rafael Prikladnicki, president of Invest RS, the agency’s support will be essential for the realization of the new semiconductor factory, which aims not only to boost innovation in the state but also to position it as a strategic center for the semiconductor industry.

Tellescom, led by Ronaldo Aloise Júnior, an executive with extensive experience in the field, emphasizes that the choice of Rio Grande do Sul is a way to leverage local expertise and favorable conditions to develop the semiconductor area in the country.
The unit will not only contribute to the local semiconductor industry but also strengthen an ecosystem that can attract other companies in the sector, in addition to generating jobs and professional training in the state.
The project by Tellescom aligns with the state government’s objectives to strengthen the technology industry and attract investments to strategic sectors, such as microelectronics. Furthermore, the company’s presence will also contribute to the advancement of the necessary infrastructure to support the semiconductor production chain, making Rio Grande do Sul one of the main innovation centers in Brazil in the sector.
Está errado que a Ceitec está extinta. Ela nunca foi extinta. Ela esteve em processo de liquidação, que foi revertido em 2023 por um decreto do presidente Lula. Inclusive recebeu novos investimentos e há um plano de expansão tecnológica em semicondutores.
