Known as the “Old Versa,” the Nissan V-Drive became a phenomenon in the used car market by combining superior category space, cheap maintenance, and a robust mechanical set, this discontinued sedan is ideal for those who drive a lot.

In the used car market, one particular model became the favorite of app drivers and those seeking the maximum return for each real invested: the Nissan V-Drive. This discontinued sedan at the end of 2021 is, in fact, the first generation of the Versa, which Nissan kept in production under a new name and with a clear mission: to be the ultimate work tool.

The success of the V-Drive is not in cutting-edge technology or in modern design, but in a simple and extremely effective formula. It offers the comfort and space of a mid-size sedan with the cheap and reliable mechanics of an entry-level car, resulting in a cost-benefit that few models can match in the used car market in 2025.

The Origin of the V-Drive: Nissan’s Strategy to Keep the Old Versa in Production from 2020 to 2021

The story of the V-Drive begins with a smart decision by Nissan. When the automaker launched the second and entirely new generation of the Versa, a much more expensive car, they needed an option to not abandon the entry-level sedan segment. The solution, adopted in July 2020, was to keep the old Versa in line, but under the name V-Drive.

This tactic allowed Nissan to use a production line and a platform that were already paid for, reducing costs and offering the car at a very competitive price.

The production of the V-Drive was short, ending in late 2021. This limited production, focused on the 1.0 model, created high demand in the used market in the following years.

The Larger Car Space: The 2,600 mm Wheelbase That Won Passengers

In the used car market, one particular model became the favorite of app drivers and those seeking the maximum return for each real invested: the Nissan V-Drive. This discontinued sedan at the end of 2021 is, in fact, the first generation of the Versa, which Nissan kept in production under a new name and with a clear mission: to be the ultimate work tool.

The big secret and the most coveted detail of the V-Drive is its interior space. With a 2,600 mm wheelbase, it has the same measurement as a Chevrolet Onix Plus and is significantly larger than a Hyundai HB20S (2,530 mm).

This translates to rear seat comfort that is a benchmark in the category, a crucial factor for app drivers who value good passenger ratings.

The trunk is another highlight. With a capacity of 460 liters, it is described by owners as “huge” and ideal for carrying luggage on airport runs or for installing a Natural Gas Vehicle (GNV) kit without losing any cargo capacity.

The “Unbreakable” Mechanics: The 1.0 Engine with 77 hp and the Advantage of the Manual Transmission

The heart of the V-Drive 1.0 is the HR10DE three-cylinder engine, which delivers 77 hp of power and 10.0 kgf.m of torque. This is not a new engine; it is the same one that powered the Nissan March since 2015, which means it has an already established reputation for durability, with easily accessible parts.

A strong point is its transmission: exclusively manual with five gears. At a time when Nissan’s CVT automatic transmission was facing criticism in other models, the simplicity and robustness of the V-Drive’s manual gearbox were seen as a guarantee of peace of mind and low maintenance costs in the long run, making this discontinued sedan an even safer choice.

The Cost-Benefit on the Pencil Tip: Why This Discontinued Sedan is the Choice of Professionals in 2025

For those who work with the car, the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is what matters most, and that’s where the V-Drive shines. In 2025, the 2021 model has a market value in the Fipe Table of around R$ 56,855, a competitive price that, combined with its low depreciation, makes it a good investment.

Fuel economy, averaging 12.9 km/l in the city and 15.3 km/l on the highway with gasoline (according to Inmetro data), helps keep costs low.

Furthermore, the possibility of installing GNV, a common practice among professional drivers, can reduce fuel costs by more than 50%.

The 2021 Sedan Showdown: How the V-Drive Compares to the Chevrolet Onix Plus and Hyundai HB20S

In its last year of production, the V-Drive competed directly with the Chevrolet Onix Plus and the Hyundai HB20S. Each had a different proposal.

Safety and Technology: The Onix Plus and HB20S were ahead, offering standard 6 and 4 airbags, respectively, along with stability control, features that the entry-level V-Drive did not have.

Space and Practicality: The V-Drive was the champion. Its passenger space and trunk capacity were its greatest differentiators for professional use.

Cost-Benefit: although the rivals were more modern and equipped, the combination of lower acquisition price, simple and robust mechanics, and ample interior space made the discontinued sedan the most rational choice for those seeking a work tool with the lowest cost and the highest return.
