The Rodotrem Has Gained Space in Road Transportation in Recent Years, Being a Combination of Cargo Vehicles Capable of Transporting Large Volumes. Traditionally, the Rodotrem Has 9 Axles and Carries Up to 74 Tons. However, the Super Rodotrem with 11 Axles Emerged to Meet the Demand of the Sugar and Ethanol Sector, Increasing the Load Capacity to 91 Tons.
The Super Rodotrem with 11 Axles Was Introduced by Scania at the 25th Edition of Agrishow. Equipped with the R-620 V8 model, this new Rodotrem was developed to meet the need to transport more cargo due to the increase in sugarcane production. Its composition includes a three-axle semi-trailer, a two-axle dolly, and another three-axle semi-trailer, totaling 11 axles.
Shortly after its launch, several sugarcane mills acquired the Super Rodotrem. In April 2017, the National Traffic Council (Contran) legalized its operation on the condition that these trucks could only travel on highways for a maximum of 100 kilometers. Furthermore, it was required that the truck had a 6×4 tractor unit with at least 520 horsepower.
However, in December 2018, Contran Prohibited the Circulation of Super Rodotrens with 11 Axles on Highways
Claiming that these vehicles caused damage to the pavement and increased the risk of serious accidents. The owners of these vehicles had to adapt their fleets, possibly reducing the configuration to a 9-axle Rodotrem.

The story changed again in October 2021, when Contran authorized the return of Super Rodotrens with 11 Axles to highways. However, now these vehicles can only be used in the sugar and ethanol sector, transporting exclusively sugarcane. Despite the restrictions, this measure brought relief to many carriers who needed this extra capacity.
The Main Debate Surrounding Super Rodotrens with 11 Axles Is Safety
A vehicle that is so long and loaded can indeed cause serious accidents if not operated carefully. Although accidents have already occurred, there is no data indicating that Super Rodotrens are more dangerous than other cargo transport configurations.
To ensure safety, it is essential that these vehicles are driven slowly and cautiously, in addition to needing well-maintained and well-signposted roads.
The Super Rodotrem with 11 Axles represents a significant advancement in cargo transport capacity, especially for the sugar and ethanol sector. However, its operation on highways remains a controversial topic due to potential risks. Regulation and usage conditions are crucial to balancing transport efficiency and road safety.
