One of the Most Luxurious and Technological Yachts in the World, Allegedly Ordered by Bill Gates, Is Going Up for Sale. The Vessel Draws Attention for Combining Extreme Luxury with Ecological Innovation, Including a Hydrogen-Powered System and a Four-Story Private Structure.
The hydrogen-powered superyacht that is said to have been ordered by Bill Gates is about to go on sale for the first time.
Valued at US$ 645 million, the ultra-luxurious 118.8-meter ship will be one of the most anticipated attractions at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.
According to the company Edmiston, responsible for the sale, the yacht is named Breakthrough and was designed with a clear purpose: to combine extreme luxury with environmental sustainability.

Heading to Brazil in a Bonanza F33 single-engine aircraft: a couple departs from Florida on a visual flight, makes technical stops in the Caribbean to refuel and organize paperwork, and begins the staged crossing until they reach the country.
The construction took five years and was carried out by the Dutch shipyard Feadship.
A Floating Palace with Four Private Decks

The Breakthrough impresses not only with its size but also with its amenities.
It has an infinity pool styled like a beach club, a basketball court, a private hospital, a cinema, libraries, hot tubs, and even a helipad deck.
Additionally, it accommodates 30 guests distributed across 15 cabins and a crew of up to 43 people.
However, the highlight is in the owner’s private area, described as a four-story house embedded within the yacht itself.
According to Edmiston, this exclusive space includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a gym, a pantry, a living room with a fireplace, two offices, and a staircase with bookshelves and nooks. It also has a private elevator.
The design also includes spaces for intimate moments: a coffee nook, a game room, a library, and a private dining room with an ocean view.
There are five decks above the waterline and two below. The owner’s deck is 37 meters above the water.
Retractable Balconies and Sophisticated Design
One of the most impressive details is the retractable balcony system. The 14 balconies hide within the yacht’s structure and slide out at the touch of a button.
When open, they align perfectly with the internal flooring, creating seamless spaces with ocean views.
Inside, the finishing reinforces the standard of luxury. The materials include leather, marble, rattan, and oak with lime finish, forming what the shipyard calls a “luxurious coastal environment.”
Clean Energy and Unprecedented Innovation
The most important aspect, however, is the propulsion system. The Breakthrough is considered the world’s first superyacht powered exclusively by liquid hydrogen.
It uses cutting-edge fuel cells, technology already employed in rockets and automobiles, but unprecedented in vessels of this size.
The fuel is stored below deck at −253 °C.
The heat generated during processing is repurposed to warm areas such as the pool, sauna, towel racks, and even the flooring in guest rooms.
If hydrogen is unavailable during long voyages, the yacht can operate on second-generation biofuel. According to the manufacturers, this alternative reduces harmful emissions by up to 90%.
Edmiston’s CEO, Jamie Edmiston, claims that the Breakthrough is the most eco-friendly yacht ever built. “The mission was clear: no kind of environmental concession,” he said.
Gates Never Used the Yacht
Despite its grandeur and cutting-edge technology, the Breakthrough has never been used by Bill Gates.
According to the website Luxury Launches, the Microsoft founder has never boarded the ship.
Although Gates’ connection to the project has never been officially confirmed, various reports have identified the billionaire as the one funding the so-called “Project 821.”
Recent information indicates that the yacht may be purchased by Canadian entrepreneur Patrick Dovigi, CEO of Green For Life Environmental.
What stands out is that, even without being used, the Breakthrough already represents a milestone in the history of the maritime industry.
By combining extreme luxury, innovative technology, and environmental awareness, it inaugurates a new era for superyachts. And now, it is officially for sale.
