The Federal Government and the Ministry of Infrastructure Prioritize the Construction of the West-East Integration Railway/Fiol, this undertaking was qualified at the 1st Meeting of the PPI Council, through Resolution No. 2, dated 09/13/2016, converted into Decree No. 8,916, dated 11/25/2016.

The current total investment planned for the works of sections 1 and 2 of FIOL (Ilhéus/BA – Caetité/BA and Caetité/BA – Barreiras/BA) is approximately R$ 2.7 billion from the federal government. FIOL constitutes an important corridor for the transportation of minerals from the south of the state of Bahia (Caetité and Tanhaçu) and grains from western Bahia. There is also the possibility of future integration with the North-South Railway, in line with the objective of integrating railway networks and improving the logistical conditions of the country.

The maritime access bridge and pier are 3,500 meters from the coast. The aim of the undertaking carried out by the federal government is to enable the transportation of iron ore produced in the Caetité region through Porto Sul. The transportation of agricultural bulk, liquid bulk, and general cargo is also planned.

Over 2,000 Employees – Federal Government Maintains Infrastructure Works During the Pandemic

Undoubtedly, the actions did not stop. During this pandemic period, in addition to projects already delivered, new undertakings are being carried out by the government. To give you an idea, the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) announced that the works for the implementation and paving of BR-285/RS/SC are 80% completed on the Santa Catarina side.

In addition, the Federal Government authorized the works for the first 52km of BR-319/Amazonas. The highway connects Porto Velho to Manaus and was entirely paved in the 1970s. With planning and support from the bench, we began to overcome the challenge.

Division of the Works

Similarly, the works are divided into two sections: Fiol 1 Ilhéus (BA)/Caetité(BA) and Fiol 2 Caetité(BA)/Barreiras(BA). Executed by Valec Engenharia, Construções e Ferrovias S.A, a public company linked to the Ministry of Infrastructure. The work will reduce the transportation costs of grains, alcohol, and minerals destined for the export market.

Finally, section 2 of Fiol, between Caetité (BA) and Barreiras (BA), has an extension of 485.4 km, involves an investment of R$ 2.7 billion, and is currently 39% completed. Its route aims to connect the grain-producing region of western Bahia to the port of Ilhéus. Section 1 has its concession project submitted to the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). Then, it is expected to have the auction notice published, scheduled for the end of 2020.
