The Construction of the Oil Storage Park at Açu Port
In addition to increasing the state’s export capacity, the oil storage park at Açu Port, which may begin construction next year, will also be connected to a network of pipelines in the southeast to provide alternatives to refineries located in the state of Rio de Janeiro and surrounding areas.
Leonardo Soares, the state secretary of Economic Development, Energy and International Relations, says that “This is a strategic and structural project for Rio de Janeiro and for Brazil. Besides consolidating the Northern Fluminense Region and the State of Rio de Janeiro in the productive and logistics chain of oil, the project will generate wealth and value for the region, as the company is committed to prioritizing local labor.”

Petrobras has signed a contract with Açu Petróleo to increase oil exports at Açu Port in São João da Barra, state of Rio de Janeiro, by 140%. Açu Petróleo, a partnership formed between the German multinational Oiltanking and Prumo Logística, announced that Petrobras will begin to move approximately 240 million barrels of the commodity (about 300,000 daily) through the Açu port complex within two years.
To meet the demand for oil exports, Açu Petróleo is also planning the construction of a Storage Park and pipeline connection to the existing network at the site. This is the second time that Petrobras has requested an increase in the volume of oil exported through Açu Port, driven by rising oil production and to meet market demand.
