Company Is Attentive to the New Demand from Oil and Gas Chain Companies – Offshore and Onshore – Amid the Pandemic
Rio de Janeiro, May 21, 2020 – The reduction of operations in the oil chain and the anticipation of the decommissioning schedule of platforms by Petrobras, due to the decline in commodity demand in the scenario of the new Coronavirus pandemic and the historic low in the barrel price, opens a potential opportunity in the sector for one of the services offered by Ocyan in its portfolio, asset preservation. “The decline in the number of operational platforms is expected to reduce the hiring of maintenance services; however, it should create preservation opportunities for these assets and those that can be put up for sale to Operators of Mature Fields,” evaluates Vinicius Castilho, director of the Maintenance and Offshore Services area at Ocyan.

According to the executive, the new reality may also accelerate the decommissioning schedule of those units that, if not sold, will indeed be deactivated.
“We are experiencing an adverse and transforming scenario. In the short term, maintenance companies will have to adapt to this new reality, and Ocyan is already doing this to offer new services to this market. This path of accelerating the decommissioning schedule should bring gains to the sector, in addition to expanding discussions among regulatory bodies and thus creating continuous and profitable opportunities for the oil & gas chain. Ocyan monitors movements and bidding schedules to strengthen necessary partnerships to meet this demand,” he concludes.
The Offshore Maintenance and Services (MSO) area of Ocyan has significantly reduced operational maintenance costs while improving the operational performance of equipment, in addition to preserving them in case of hibernation to ensure effective operational return at the appropriate moment. The Preservation service has already accumulated more than three thousand preserved pieces of equipment since 2018, demonstrating the area’s capacity to expand activities to third-party assets. The company also seeks strategic partnerships with Operators of Mature Fields to offer maintenance and offshore preservation services.
Pioneer in Preservation
Ocyan is the first supplier focused on innovative solutions in the exploration and production market to conduct equipment and structure preservation while the asset is operational. The activity utilizes an innovative method derived from the petrochemical sector and helps reduce operational maintenance costs and improve the operational performance of vessel equipment.
According to Vinicius Castilho, the feasibility of performing the service without having the platforms stopped or docked generates direct positive impacts on reducing downtimes, on replacing lost materials and equipment, on reducing fines imposed by clients, and on minimizing the risk of work accidents, in addition to contributing to the safe return of non-operational equipment in case of hibernation or temporary production stoppage of assets.
The Offshore Maintenance and Services Area in Numbers
The offshore maintenance and services business unit of Ocyan has extensive experience that can be translated into numbers. Since 2000, it has performed over 30 contracts, accumulated 1 million engineering hours, managed over 120 production and drilling stoppages, installed more than 10 thousand tons of pipelines and structures onboard offshore facilities, painted over 1 million square meters, and mounted 14 million meters of scaffolding, along with nearly 80 million man-hours worked with the highest level of safety and quality in the market. “We have a record of around 20 million man-hours worked without a lost-time accident,” Castilho states.
