The New Solar Power Plant of Panvel Was Installed on the Roof in the Parking Area of Its Administrative Building in Rio Grande do Sul

Last Tuesday, the pharmacy chain Panvel inaugurated a new solar power plant in the city of Eldorado do Sul, located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The company adopted the carport tactic to build a solar power generation plant that fully covers the energy consumption of its headquarters and distribution center. In this model, the panels form a kind of cover that also protects people from the sun. 2,280 solar panels were installed on site, enough to guarantee an installed capacity of 1 megawatt. Taking advantage of the fact that the plant was installed in the parking lot, the company has made available two electric vehicle charging points. According to the company, this is the largest carport plant in the country.

By 2022, Panvel expects to have four more photovoltaic plants. The goal is to have 100% of operations, including stores — there are currently 477 points of sale, with plans to open another 65 this year. The retailer belongs to Grupo Dimed, which also operates in the distribution of medications, beauty products, and laboratories. The group’s retail revenue last year was R$ 2.69 billion.

Investments in Renewable Energy

The new solar power plant of Panvel, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, represents an investment exceeding R$ 4 million, made by the company itself. This move integrates into Panvel’s ESG policies, which have the promotion of clean energy as one of the main focuses. With five other photovoltaic plants already in operation, the plan includes the construction of six more next year to compensate for the consumption of 100% of the street stores currently operating in the Southern Region and São Paulo.

The president of Grupo Dimed, Julio Mottin Neto, stated that they are taking another important step aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of Panvel. In addition to helping to reduce pollution in the environment, they want to share positive experiences that benefit the development of communities, impacting the health and well-being of people, concluded the executive.

Udiaço and Sunning closed a partnership for the installation of one of the most impactful alternative energy production projects in recent times: a solar power generation plant installed on the roof of Udiaço’s headquarters, located near the Rodoanel Mário Covas, in Carapicuíba, in the western region of Greater São Paulo. It covers more than 4,300 m2 of area, resulting in an average energy generation of over 75,000 kwh per month.

The project for Udiaço’s solar power plant was implemented during the pandemic and took about eight months to be completed. A good portion of the time was spent on the licensing from Enel, which, due to the health crisis, was operating with a reduced team and restrictions. “Our average energy consumption is 85,887 kwh/month. With the photovoltaic roof, we aim to cover almost 90% of our consumption,” said Lucas Trevizan, Udiaço’s marketing director. “Based on the expected monthly generation variations, this index fluctuates, but with the implementation of the system, initial expectations are being exceeded,” he added.
