The New Tamoios Highway Promises to Revolutionize Access to the North Coast of SP! With Modern Tunnels, a Journey of Just 18 Minutes and Free Flow Toll, the Highway Connects Caraguatatuba to São Sebastião Quickly and Safely.

The 2025 Carnival has arrived, and thousands of revelers are already hitting the road to the beaches of the north coast of São Paulo.

With the completion of the Southern Bypass of the Tamoios Highway, one of the busiest stretches this time of year, traveling has become faster and safer.

The new highway connects Caraguatatuba to São Sebastião in just 18 minutes, a much shorter time than the previous route, which could take hours during peak season.

The beaches of the São Paulo north coast are traditional destinations for those seeking sun, sea, and plenty of festivities during Carnival.

However, the journey to these cities has always been a challenge, with traffic jams stretching for miles, especially during long holidays.

Now, with this new highway, drivers can avoid much of the congestion and reach their destination much more efficiently.

A Faster Trip to the Coast

As published by CPG, the highway was inaugurated on November 18 and has 26 km in length, offering a modern and well-signposted alternative for those wishing to avoid the typical traffic jams of Carnival.

With tunnels reaching up to 3.4 km, the stretch was designed to provide more safety and traffic flow.

The project faced a seven-year delay and cost about R$ 3 billion, but it is now fully operational, making life easier for drivers heading to the festivities and blocks on the north coast.

The tunnels are one of the highlights of the project. Inspired by European highways, they feature advanced systems for ventilation, lighting, and monitoring, ensuring greater safety for drivers.

In case of an emergency, escape routes are available at specified distances, allowing for quick and efficient evacuation if necessary.

Additionally, the road was built with materials that provide more grip to the ground, reducing the risk of accidents, especially in rainy periods.

With the high volume of vehicles expected during Carnival, these details make all the difference in ensuring a smooth journey.

Speed and Safety in the Tunnels

The Southern Bypass of the Tamoios Highway allows a maximum speed of 80 km/h, ensuring a quick trip without compromising safety.

The tunnels follow the standard of the Tamoios Nova Serra and were designed with cutting-edge technology.

In addition to having multiple emergency exits, the tunnels were structured to function as escape routes in case of unforeseen events, connecting through a central passage.

According to experts, this highway could be a model for future constructions in Brazil, due to the technology applied in its structure.

The real-time monitoring system allows any problems to be detected quickly, preventing unexpected traffic jams.

Free Flow Toll: No Stops

To ensure even more fluidity, the highway features the free flow toll system, in which drivers do not need to stop at toll booths.

The gantry was installed at km 13.5 and allows for automatic passage of vehicles, with electronic toll collection.

The estimated toll amount is around R$ 5, facilitating access without the need for queues.

This system is widely used in countries like the United States and Canada and allows continuous vehicle flow, which is essential during periods like Carnival when road traffic increases significantly.

The free flow also reduces environmental impacts, as it decreases the need for physical structures and avoids excessive fuel consumption during prolonged stops.

A Solution for Carnival Traffic

With the increase in tourist traffic on the coast during Carnival, the new highway is expected to be essential in alleviating traffic in Caraguatatuba and other cities in the region.

The expectation is that the road will significantly reduce the congestion that usually occurs this time of year, especially during peak hours.

It is estimated that thousands of vehicles will pass through the highway during the holiday, and authorities have already increased monitoring teams to ensure safe traffic.

Additionally, there are plans for special operations to prevent possible delays, ensuring that revelers reach their destinations without significant delays.

If you’re going to enjoy Carnival on the beaches of the São Paulo north coast, it’s worth considering this new route option. With a faster and safer trip, you’ll have more time to enjoy the blocks, parties, and the sea.
