The State-Owned Company Is Seeking New Contracts for the Chartering of Four Drilling Rigs for Its Exploration Campaigns in the Brazilian Market. According to Petrobras, Thirteen Companies Are Qualified to Participate in the Bidding for the Agreements.

Looking ahead to its upcoming oil and natural gas exploration campaigns in Brazil, Petrobras launched a new bidding process in the market at the beginning of this week. The company is in the process of hiring four new drilling rigs for its operations. After the pre-qualification of interested companies, thirteen companies are qualified to participate in the state bidding. The contracts will be divided into three lots, with a projected start date in 2024.

Petrobras Aims for Upcoming Exploration Campaigns in Brazil and Opens New Bidding for the Chartering of Offshore Drilling Rigs

The year 2022 was marked by significant administrative instabilities in the presidency of Petrobras, but the company began 2023 taking new directions in the market.

Under the new management of Jean Paul Prates, an ally of the Lula Government, the state-owned oil company is preparing for a year of strong investments in oil and natural gas exploration and production.

With this in mind, it announced at the beginning of this week a new bidding process for the hiring of four drilling rigs for its future operations in Brazil.

The contracts are scheduled to commence around the year 2024, focusing on the Brazilian pre-salt region.

The bidding is divided into three non-exclusive lots, and the opening of the envelopes with proposals is initially scheduled for March 17.

Petrobras’ tender led to the pre-qualification of only 13 companies that will be able to participate in the bidding for the new contracts.

The qualified drilling companies for the contracts are: Brasdrill, Constellation, Dolphin, Ensco, Etesco, NE Drilling, Ocyan, Odfjell, Saipem, Seadrill, Stena, Transocean, and Ventura.

The complete documentation regarding the bidding is available on the Petronect website (no. 7004009573).

According to Petrobras’ bidding notice, both semi-submersible platforms and drill ships will be accepted for the new contracts.

New Contracts for the Chartering of Drilling Platforms by the State-Owned Company Are Planned for Three Lots Throughout 2024

Petrobras is planning a total of three lots for the hiring of the four drilling rigs throughout the year 2024.

Lot 1 includes the hiring of up to two dynamic positioning rigs with high specifications, capable of operating in water depths of up to 3,048 meters, with MPD (Managed Pressure Drilling) systems.

The mobilization will have a period of 390 days, and operations will take place between March and November of next year, according to the bidding.

For the upcoming contracts, Petrobras will hire a dynamic positioning rig with high specifications, capable of operating in water depths of up to 2,400 meters in lot 2.

The mobilization for this agreement will also be 290 days, with an operation date projected for March and November 2024.

Finally, the state-owned company will hire a positioning rig capable of operating in water depths of up to 2,400 meters in the third and final lot.

In this agreement, the mobilization period will be 360 days, with operations planned between January and November 2024.

The classification of the lots will be carried out as follows: Lot 1 (highest priority), Lot 2, and Lot 3 (lowest priority).

With the bidding for new contracts for the chartering of drilling rigs, Petrobras invests in the future of its operations in Brazil.
