In a statement, Petrobras informed that the FPSO that was supposed to be installed in Mero 1 this year will be postponed to 2022 due to delays caused by covid-19

Petrobras announced today (Wednesday) the postponement of production at Mero 1 to the first quarter of 2022. Previously, it was expected to occur in the last quarter of 2021 but was delayed. The Mero oil field belongs to the pre-salt block of Libra, in the Santos Basin, which the Brazilian government auctioned in 2013. The FPSO Guanabara is in China, and due to covid-19, there has been a delay in the progress of the project.

Petrobras and the Delay in Production at Mero 1

According to Petrobras, the FPSO Guanabara is in transition in China and, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a delay in the construction of the floating production, storage and offloading unit, needing to adjust the schedule.

The FPSO Guanabara will be installed in the Mero oil field in the pre-salt, in the Santos Basin, with a daily processing capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil.

The Mero field is operated by Petrobras in partnership with Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltda., with respective shares of 40% and 20%, Total E&P do Brasil Ltda. holds 20%, CNODC Brasil Petróleo e Gás Ltda. holds 10%, CNOOC Petroleum Brasil Ltda. holds 10%, and Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA), which acts as the manager of this contract.

The FPSO Guanabara

The FPSO will eventually be deployed in the Mero field (formerly Libra), operated by Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) and partners of the Libra Consortium, in the vast “pre-salt” region of the Santos Basin approximately 180 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in water depth of about 2,100 meters.

The FPSO will be capable of processing 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 424 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, 225,000 barrels of water injection per day, and has a storage capacity of 1,400,000 barrels of crude oil.
