Start of contracting process for platform vessels may boost oil activities in northeastern Brazil

Petrobras started the contracting process for the charter of two platform vessels for the Sergipe Águas Profundas (SEAP) project, located in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, approximately 100 kilometers from the coast.

The initiative, announced by the oil company on Monday night (3), aims to increase the availability of national gas and open a new production frontier in the Northeast region.

Strategic drillships for oil production and storage

The FPSO-type units (floating oil production, storage and transfer system) are considered strategic for the Sergipe Águas Profundas project.

Each platform (SEAP I and SEAP II) will have the capacity to process up to 120 thousand barrels of oil (bpd) daily. The oil produced in the region is light, of good quality and of greater commercial value, with API degrees between 38 and 41. Together, the two units will have the potential to offer up to 18 million m3 of gas per day.

Potential of the Sergipe Águas Profundas project in the supply of natural gas

According to the president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, the Sergipe Águas Profundas project stands out for its expressive reserves, with the potential to boost the supply of natural gas in the country and reduce dependence on imports of this input.

The initiative will also bring a series of opportunities for the sector and for the states of Sergipe and Alagoas, with the possibility of new investments in the region.

Technological innovations and advances in deepwater production

The Sergipe Águas Profundas project also marks a new technological milestone in the country, with the implementation of a production project in water depths of over 2.500 meters (up to 3 meters). This innovation incorporates state-of-the-art technologies, which will allow exploration and production in extreme conditions of depth and pressure.

In summary, the contracting of drillships by Petrobras for the Sergipe Águas Profundas project represents an important advance in the exploration and production of oil and gas in the Northeast region of the country. With the implementation of the FPSO units, a significant increase in the availability of domestic gas is expected, in addition to creating new investment and development opportunities for the states of Sergipe and Alagoas.

Finally, the project also highlights the constant search for technological innovations, with the exploration of resources in ultra-deep waters.
