“I believe in the Brazil of the future! The recovery of the shipbuilding industry and the oil and gas sector has always been one of my struggles, especially regarding Comperj. At Petrobras’ invitation, I visited the FPSO Carioca platform, which will be deployed in the Sépia field, located in the pre-salt region of the Santos Basin. It will have the capacity to process 180,000 barrels of oil per day. Six million cubic meters of natural gas will be allocated to the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN), at Comperj in Itaboraí. Accompanying the delegation were the president of the Mines and Energy Commission, federal representative Edio Lopes, Petrobras’ Director of Institutional Relations, Roberto Ardenghy, the mayor of Angra dos Reis, Fernando Jordão, and his wife, state representative Célia Jordão, along with councilors from the municipality.” said Federal Representative Altineu Cortes on his social media profile on Facebook.
Rio Authority Highlights Petrobras’ Importance With Resumption of Shipbuilding
The president of the sector commission in Alerj, Célia Jordão, emphasized the importance of the company’s approach to the leaders actively working on the front lines for the resumption of shipbuilding. Mayor Fernando Jordão, who is in his fourth term managing Angra dos Reis, stated that he had never received a call from Petrobras to learn more about the operation.
“This approach brings deeper knowledge and understanding of the subject so we can develop better work and help boost this segment, generating new jobs in the state. We raised the issue of local content, which is so important for the resurgence of our shipbuilding industry’s economy,” stated representative Célia Jordão.
5,000 Job Openings Are Expected for Shipbuilding in Rio de Janeiro
The companies also commented on market challenges in shipbuilding regarding technology, infrastructure, and lack of tax incentives to make them more competitive. According to the parliamentarian, there are projections of 5,000 new job openings with construction in shipyards in the state.
“It is a market with significant contributions to the state’s economic development, with a growing perspective of new works, but it needs a development plan. With the construction of the P-78, MV-32, and Platform Almirante Tamandaré, there is a projection of 5,000 new jobs,” said the parliamentarian.

The storage capacity of the unit is 1.4 million barrels of crude oil.
The FPSO will be deployed in the Sépia field, operated by Petrobras, located in the vast pre-salt region of the Santos Basin, approximately 250 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in water depth of approximately 2,200 meters. Six million cubic meters of natural gas will be allocated to the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN), at Comperj in Itaboraí.
This is the 13th FPSO / FSO that MODEC will supply in Brazil, as well as the 6th FPSO from MODEC in the “pre-salt” after the FPSO Cidade de Angra dos Reis MV22, FPSO Cidade de São Paulo MV23, FPSO Cidade de Mangaratiba MV24, FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí MV26, and the FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba MV27, which achieved First Oil Production in December 2016.
