Petrobras Reported That The Operation Was Closed for 177 Million Reais for a Period of 10 Years, Renewable for the Same Period
Petrobras reported this Thursday, November 21, that it has leased the Fafens (nitrogen fertilizer factories) in Sergipe and Bahia to the Unigel Group, which will have control of the units for a period of ten years, renewable for another ten. In 2020, Petrobras’ deep and ultra-deep water hubs will be 88% exploration and production.
In addition to the factories, the lease includes the maritime terminals for ammonia and urea at the Port of Aratu, Bahia. The deal involves R$ 177 million. The company sought alternatives and studied the best economic and cost conditions for transferring the facilities to the future operator of the factories.

The company reminds that the process for leasing the Fafens followed the procedures of Federal Law 13.303/2016 (State Companies Law) and its Bidding and Contracts Regulation.
“This operation is aligned with portfolio optimization and improved capital allocation for the company, aiming to generate value for our shareholders,” the company states.
According to Anelise Lara, director of Refining and Natural Gas, the lease of the units will allow the fertilizer factories, which were dormant, to resume operations, creating new jobs and attracting investments to the states of Bahia and Sergipe.

“Our strategic planning focuses investments in oil and gas production in Brazil. By concentrating on the company’s core activities, we are also opening up space for new companies to emerge and begin investing in new segments. This will bring benefits to both Bahia and Sergipe, as it opens new perspectives for local economies. The expectation is that everyone involved will benefit from the deal,” explained Anelise.
The Fafen-BA is a nitrogen fertilizer unit with a total production capacity of urea of 1,300 t/day. It also sells ammonia, carbon dioxide, and automotive liquid reducing agent (Arla 32).
The Sergipe unit has a total production capacity of urea of 1,800 t/day. It also sells ammonia, carbon dioxide, and ammonium sulfate (also used as fertilizer).
