Petrobras Could Act As A Supplier Or As A Generator Of Power Plants. divestment In Thermal Power Plants Should Begin Next Year
Petrobras is studying participation in the upcoming A-6 auction of electricity generation projects, which will be held in October of this year, with energy delivery in 2025. This was stated on Wednesday by Petrobras’ Executive Director of Refining and Natural Gas, Anelise Lara. The executive’s comments echoed recent news that Petrobras is considering creating a subsidiary for power generation with its thermal assets and selling the unit in an initial public offering.
According to her, the state-owned oil and gas company’s participation can be both as a natural gas supplier and as a generator, through partnerships. “Yes, we are looking at the A-6, it could be through partnerships,” said the executive.

Anelise Lara, after participating in a seminar in Rio de Janeiro, stated that the state-owned company has a thermal park of 26 plants and intends to sell 15 of these ventures.
The sales process, which is expected to start in 2020, is part of the company’s divestment and asset management program.
The choice of the 15 thermal plants was the result of an analysis of the company’s portfolio, which according to Anelise Lara, the remaining assets are those that will make sense for the company. “Sales should take place starting next year,” the executive warns.
Also present at the event, the president of Shell in Brazil, André Araujo, emphasized the company’s strategy to look at electricity projects worldwide and said that it could evaluate Petrobras’ thermal plants when they are put up for sale.
The executive also stated that they are evaluating participation in the A-6, with “a dedicated team,” but stressed that no decision has been made regarding participation in the auction.
