The Exploration Campaign of Petrobras in the Santos Basin Has Yielded Good Results for the Oil Company in Recent Years. Now, It Has Begun Another Drilling in the Pre-Salt Area in a Well Located in the Aram Block.
Aiming to expand its production capacity in the Santos Basin area, Petrobras is currently conducting another drilling operation in the region. This is well 3-BRSA-1387D-SPS, located in the pre-salt area of the Aram block. The company has been carrying out exploratory activities in the block for several months and is now preparing to intensify the campaign with the new ongoing drilling.
Well 3-BRSA-1387D-SPS Is Being Drilled by Petrobras in the Pre-Salt of the Aram Block at a Water Depth of 1,977 Meters, According to ANP
Recently, Petrobras made a new advancement in its exploration program in the Santos Basin by starting the drilling of a well (3-BRSA-1387D-SPS) in the pre-salt layer in the Aram block.
According to the National Oil Agency (ANP), the well is being drilled at a water depth of 1,977 meters. This is another bet by the oil company for the exploration of the region’s pre-salt, looking at future opportunities.

The Aram block is a partnership between Petrobras (80%) and the Chinese CNODC (20%), which acquired the area during the 6th Sharing Round in 2019, paying R$ 5.050 billion in signing bonuses and offering 29.96% of oil surplus to the Union.
This is an area that the company is targeting to become one of the future major fuel production regions for the oil company.
In November 2022, Petrobras completed the formation test at the pioneering well (1-BRSA-1381-SPS) in Aram, in the Curaçao discovery, evaluating a thick interval of carbonate reservoirs in the pre-salt and verifying the productivity of the discovery through dynamic production data.
During the test, oil samples were collected that will be sent for laboratory analysis to determine their characteristics and properties.
The formation test, which occurred about six months after the completion of drilling the pioneering well 1-BRSA-1381-SPS in January 2022, complemented the evaluation of this well based on profiles.
These results will be crucial to better understand the characteristics of the reservoir and its potential productivity. Petrobras will continue to monitor the Aram area aiming to optimize production and maximize the results of its operations in the region.
State Company Has Been Investing Heavily in the Exploration of the Santos Basin in Recent Years. New Well Drilling in the Aram Block Reinforces the Company’s Commitment
The drilling of well 3-BRSA-1387D-SPS represents an important step in Petrobras’s growth strategy in the Santos Basin, as well as in increasing the production of oil and natural gas.
The company has been investing heavily in the exploration of the pre-salt, which is considered one of the largest oil reserves in the world.
The well in the Aram Block is located in the Santos sedimentary basin, one of the most important in Brazil, and the expectation is that it can yield good results in terms of discovering new reserves.
The state company has been a pioneer in pre-salt exploration in the region and, since then, has achieved excellent results in its production.
Now, Petrobras will continue monitoring the pre-salt area of the Aram Block after the drilling of the new well.
