After Renewing the Contract of the Seadrill Rig, Petrobras Informs That It Will Start the Campaign on the Asset Acquired in the 4th Round of Sharing, in 2018.
On Monday (11/04), Click Oil and Gas reported that Petrobras signed the renewal of the contract with Seadrill for drilling services of the West Tellus rig.
Yesterday (11/05), it was Petrobras’ turn to announce that it will begin, in the first half of this month of November, the first drillings with the rig in the Uirapuru field, in the Santos basin, won in the 4th round of sharing in 2018.
The values of the agreement between Petrobras and Seadrill were around US$ 170 million, which represented a daily rate of about US$ 235 thousand.
The drillship West Tellus has been operating in the Mero/Libra area since 2015 and the old contract would end at the end of October, and it needed to be renewed to proceed to the Uirapuru asset in the Santos basin.

Seadrill is a deepwater drilling contractor for the oil industry. It is incorporated in Bermuda and managed from London. The company operates semi-submersible platforms, drilling rigs, and drillships.
In addition to the unit contracted by Petrobras, Seadrill had another one, the West Saturn, providing services for Equinor, but the contract ended and it left the country.
It is rumored in the market that Seadrill presented a better proposal in an ExxonMobil tender, but this fact has not yet received official confirmation.
The Asset
The Uirapuru field in the Santos basin is operated by Petrobras, which has as partners Petrogal, with 14%, Equinor (28%) and ExxonMobil (28%).
The planning of the drillship campaign foresees only one drilling in the area, to be immediately transferred to other areas of the Brazilian oil company.
