Now the majority of Constellation’s rigs are in operation and fulfilling offshore contracts. Two units, the Alpha Star and Gold Star, are semi-submersible drilling platforms in ultra-deep waters, capable of drilling to depths of up to 9,000 feet (approximately 2,700 meters), and began operations in July 2011 and February 2010, respectively.
The Lone Star has a capacity to drill to depths of up to 7,900 feet and began operations in April 2011.
The great news about the renewal of the contract for the three Petrobras rigs with Constellation, comes 15 days after the state-owned company signed a charter contract for the Laguna Star rig, also from Constellation, for a period of 2 years.
The Fleet
Constellation has a fleet composed of eight offshore drilling rigs, including two moored semi-submersibles for operation in water depths of up to 1,100 meters, three dynamic positioning rigs for operation in water depths of up to 2,700 meters, and three drill ships for operation in water depths of up to 3,000 meters.
