The Intention of Individualized Conversation Is to Define the Best Contracting Model for the FPSOs That Petrobras Plans to Hire in the Coming Years.

The FPSO sector is awaiting a significant demand, as we have previously published here on our portal, thus Petrobras has been inviting each of the FPSO manufacturers for talks.
The purpose of the workshops is to diversify the contracting model, given that the last units chartered were through the chartering model and new forms are being attempted by the state company with the charterers.

A new model, which Petrobras has been inquiring about the interest of the charterers, is the B.O.T (Build Operate Transfer), where the charterer builds the FPSO, operates it for 3, 4, or 5 years, and then transfers it to the field operator.
The B.O.T model is expected to be used for at least one of the FPSOs to be chartered later this year, specifically in the second half, when Petrobras will launch three bids, one for the third production unit of Mero and one for Itapu, both projects in the Santos Basin, and another for Sergipe-Alagoas.

The market bets that in the Itapu field, the expectation is that the BOT model will be adopted for the FPSO chartering.

Meetings between Petrobras and the charterers began in April and are being held at the company’s headquarters in downtown Rio de Janeiro.
The meetings are being conducted by managers from the areas of Production Development & Technology and Corporate Affairs at Petrobras.

Who Will Talk

Today, Thursday (05/02), representatives from the companies Ocyan and BW Offshore participated in talks, and in the coming days, SBM, Modec, Teekay, Saipem, Bluewater, Yinson, and Bumi Armada, among others, are expected.
From the number of participating companies, one can gauge the strength of the demand for FPSOs by Petrobras in the coming years and the degree of importance that a joint definition will have on the success of the business.

Only two FPSOs currently operating for Petrobras were contracted under the BOT regime, the P-57, initially contracted with SBM Offshore, and the P-63, which is in charge of BW Offshore.

The Next FPSOs of Petrobras

If expectations are confirmed, the FPSO for Itapu, with a capacity to produce 120,000 bopd, is expected to be the next to use this contracting model and will begin production in 2023.
The FPSO 3 of Mero will have the capacity to produce 180,000 bopd, with the first oil expected for 2022, and the deepwater FPSO of Sergipe-Alagoas is being designed to produce 100,000 bopd starting in 2023.
