Aiming To Further Expand Its Presence In The Brazilian Pre-Salt Sector, State-Owned Petrobras Announced The Beginning Of Oil Production At The Marlim Field, An Area Of The Campos Basin With High Reserve Potential.
Recently, the oil and gas company Petrobras announced the beginning of its oil production in the pre-salt zone at the Marlim Sul field, located in the Campos Basin in the southeast region of the country. The well that began production was internally named MLS-233 (6-BRSA-1349-RJS) and has been ensuring the company a great production flow in the initial days of the state-owned company’s campaign in the region.
First Well Of Petrobras In The Pre-Salt Zone Of The Marlim Field, In The Campos Basin, Is Put Into Oil Production This Week
The company Petrobras continues to expand its exploratory campaign in the country and, this week, took another important step in the Campos Basin region in the southeast of the country by starting oil production in the pre-salt zone of the Marlim Field, one of the company’s most important assets currently in the revitalization phase.
Thus, the MLS-233 well, which is the active asset in the company’s production campaign at the moment, started being used for fuel production this Tuesday.

The results of the initial phase of the company’s oil production campaign in the Campos Basin are already being observed optimistically, as the well has been producing an average volume of 12,000 bpd, still with controlled flow.
The well has been exploiting an area referred to by Petrobras as Poraquê, discovered in 2017, and is currently producing for the P-40, interconnected to a 4-inch (10.16 cm) diameter line, ensuring more efficiency in fuel supply.
The region of the MLS-233 well is located in the northeastern area of the Marlim Field, in the Campos Basin, and the Poraquê reservoir extends across Marlim Sul as well as part of Marlim Leste.
This production initiative at the well located in the Campos Basin marked the debut of the Marlim Field in fuel exploration in the pre-salt zone, and Petrobras expects to achieve even greater production volumes over the next few months by making strong investments to make it happen.
Company Will Now Monitor Oil Production Results In The Pre-Salt Of The Marlim Field And Advances Its Exploration In The Campos Basin
Now, Petrobras will monitor the well’s flow behavior over the next few months. If the reservoir’s flow remains stable at the end of the initial results analysis period, Petrobras plans to interconnect at least two more pre-salt producing wells in the Marlim Sul field.
Thus ensuring a projection of even greater growth in the volume of production in the pre-salt region for the coming years, focusing on the state-owned company’s growth plan in the area.
The company already has a strong presence in the pre-salt sector in the region, and in Tracajá, the pre-salt reservoir of Marlim Leste, the initial average flow per well was 15,000 barrels per day.
Currently, Petrobras operates only two oil production wells in the area, which together can achieve a volume of 12,000 barrels per day, a significant number for the daily production of the state-owned company in the southeast of the country.
The Marlim Sul Field was discovered by the state-owned company in 1987 and has been in production operation since 1994, producing 96,000 boe/day, through three platforms that are interconnected to a total of 36 producing wells.
