The Contract Between Petrobras and SBM Offshore Foresees That the FPSO Will Produce About 180 Thousand BDP and Treat 12 Million Cubic Meters of Gas Per Day
Petrobras announced yesterday, Monday (08/02), that it has signed a letter of intent with SBM Offshore for the charter of the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão, which will be the fourth production unit in the Mero field, the first production-sharing area in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin. The charter contract is for 22 years, and production is expected to begin in 2025. The Contract Between the Largest Oil Company in the Country and SBM Offshore
The FPSO will be the fourth platform of the definitive system of the Mero field in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin and will have a processing capacity of 180 thousand barrels of oil and 12 million m3 of gas per day. Production is expected to start in 2025. The charter and service contracts will last 22 years and 6 months, counted from the final acceptance of the unit.
The Petrobras and SBM Offshore project foresees the interconnection of 15 wells to the FPSO, being 8 oil producers, 6 water and gas injectors, and 1 convertible well from producer to gas injector, through a subsea infrastructure composed of rigid production and injection pipelines and flexible service pipelines.

SBM Offshore Celebrates Another Contract with Petrobras
Bruno Chabas, CEO of SBM Offshore, commented: “The signing of this Letter of Intent is the second major project awarded this year by our main client, Petrobras. Our market-leading Fast4Ward program continues to meet customer needs for developing complex, large-scale FPSOs, providing economical and low GHG-intensity solutions.”
SBM Offshore will design and construct the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão using its industry-leading Fast4Ward program, as it incorporates the company’s new Multi-Purpose Floater (MPF) hull, combined with several standardized topsides modules. The fifth MPF hull from SBM Offshore has been allocated to this project. FPSO completion is expected in 2024.
The Libra block, where the Mero field is located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, is under a Production Sharing Contract with a Consortium formed by Petrobras with 40%, Shell Brasil with 20%, Total Energies with 20%, CNODC and CNOOC with 10% each, and the state-owned company Pré-Sal Petróleo SA as the administrator of the Production Sharing Contract.

The Dutch oil company SBM Offshore signed a 26-year lease and operation contract for the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré with Brazil’s largest oil company, Petrobras, the Amsterdam-based company reported on 07/27. These contracts follow the signing of the binding Letter of Intent, as announced on February 25, 2021.
The Almirante Tamandaré production storage and offloading unit will be the sixth FPSO in Búzios and the largest in Brazil, and will be deployed in the Santos Basin, approximately 180km from the state of Rio de Janeiro. The Búzios field is the largest deep and ultra-deep water oil field in the world.
