Latam Seeks to Reduce Carbon Emissions Through Adoption of New Technologies and Growth in Sustainable Fuel Use
Like many airlines around the world, Latam Airlines has ambitious plans to reduce carbon emissions. The mission to cut emissions is no easy task, being one of the greatest challenges the company will face in the coming years. The key to making a greater contribution to the environment lies in the type of fuel that the company uses.
As the site Reportur showed, Latam Airlines aims to be carbon-neutral by 2050 and reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030. As a result, alternative fuels must be used, such as sugarcane.
Roberto Alvo, CEO of Latam, stated in an interview with DF Chile, highlighted Brazil’s capacity in sugarcane production: “The amount of sugarcane waste is sufficient to supply the entire national airline sector. Today there are small biocombustible production plants, but it is still a very embryonic phase,” he emphasized.

A BRICS country surprises the world, doubles electricity generation in just 7 years, nears 9,800 MW, and becomes one of Africa’s new bets in renewable energy.

Still in Chile, the CEO highlighted the alternative of green hydrogen: “In Punta Arenas, Chile, there is a small project we are looking at, which is the generation of a type of oil that can later be refined, and there are also projects announced by the Ministry of Energy, which are more ambitious, but more towards the end of the decade.”
Latam’s Project for the Coming Decades
Latam has a significant goal ahead, which will only be achieved through hard work and investment. To help curb climate change by reducing carbon emissions, the company intends to work on the transition to sustainable fuels and the adoption of new aviation technologies.
