The Petrobras Fertilizer Plant Is the Only Asset of Ansa, and With the Decision, 396 Workers Will Be Dismissed in Paraná
On Tuesday, 14, Petrobras approved the closure of the fertilizer plant located in Araucária, Paraná. The decision will result in the dismissal of 396 employees from the unit. The divestment process of the unit began over two years ago, but negotiations with the Russian company Acron Group were terminated without the sale being completed, as reported last November.

In a statement, Petrobras says that the results of Ansa demonstrate the lack of sustainability of the business: from January to September of last year alone, the loss was almost R$ 250 million. For the end of this year, projections were for a negative result of over R$ 400 million.
According to the statement, “In the current market context, the raw material used in the plant (asphalt waste) is more expensive than its final products (ammonia and urea).”
ANSA/Fafen-PR is the only fertilizer plant in the country that operates with this type of raw material.
“The plant will remain hibernated under conditions that ensure total operational and environmental safety, as well as the integrity of the equipment,” said the company.
The decision to hibernate the plant, Petrobras emphasized, is aligned with the strategic positioning to completely exit the fertilizer business.
The company currently has its focus entirely on the exploration and production of oil and gas in deep and ultra-deep waters, seeking greater financial return and improved capital allocation.
“The plant will remain hibernated under conditions that ensure total operational and environmental safety, as well as the integrity of the equipment”, Petrobras informed.
Dismissal of Workers
Petrobras reported that the 396 employees to be laid off will receive, in addition to the legal severance pay, an additional package.
Among the proposed benefits are a monetary amount from 50,000 to 200,000 reais, proportional to salary and time worked; maintenance of medical and dental plans, pharmacy benefits, and educational assistance for up to 24 months, as well as specialized professional relocation assistance.
The state company informed that ANSA met this Tuesday with the union to discuss the matter.
