According to Petrobras’ announcement, the pipeline operation was safely interrupted, and teams were mobilized for repairs, with a return forecast in a week.
The causes of the occurrence are being investigated by the state-owned company, which says there is no risk of discontinuity in fulfilling its commitments to its clients and that Petrobras keeps the competent authorities informed.

Petrobras is the operator of the Manati field, with a 35% stake, in partnership with Enauta Energia S.A. (45%), GeoPark LTDA (10%) and Petro Rio Coral Oil Exploration LTDA (10%). The average production of the field in November/21 was 3.42 million m3/d, with 1.20 million m3/d attributable to Petrobras.
Petrobras Successfully Drills Deepest Oil Exploration Well in Brazil’s History; Record Depth of 7,700 Meters Is Equivalent to 1.3 Times the Height of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Tallest Mountain in Africa
The Brazilian oil giant Petrobras reported in a relevant market fact last Friday (12/10) that it has completed drilling the pioneering exploratory oil well of block ES-M-669, in the pre-salt of the Espírito Santo Basin. Drilled 145 km off the coast, in a location known as Monai, a mythological figure from Guarani culture, the project set several records, including that of the deepest well ever drilled in Brazil, at around 7,700 meters; and the largest salt layer ever drilled in the country, with approximately 4,850 m.
“The intensive use of technology and the efficient performance of the teams involved also allowed us to reduce the drilling time of the well by approximately 50% compared to the historical average for projects of this nature and complexity, which also represents a significant cost reduction. The exploration of this new frontier in the pre-salt of the Espírito Santo Basin reaffirms Petrobras’ focus on operating in ultra-deep waters through partnerships with other companies,” highlighted the Director of Production Development, João Henrique Rittershaussen.
Unlike an oil production well, an exploratory well aims to obtain information about the characteristics of the drilled rocks, their geology, existing pressures, and the presence of reservoirs with oil or gas. The drilling of the pioneering Monai well obtained all the expected geological information for the proper assessment of the area.
The data collected is being analyzed to determine the future of block ES-M-669. It is important to note that the geological information obtained in exploratory frontier areas, like that of Monai, also supports the enhancement of studies and modeling for other areas and basins, incorporating important strategic knowledge for the company.
