Platform P-26, With A Long History in the Campos Basin, Begins Recycling Process and Awaits Petrobras’ Definition on the Future of the Structure.
Petrobras has initiated the demobilization of platform P-26, which operated in the Marlim field in the Campos Basin since 1998. The unit, which ended its operations in 2020, was moved this Wednesday (11/13) to the Port of Açu, in the northern part of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The platform P-26 will undergo a series of processes, including hull cleaning and essential repairs to naval systems, before proceeding to the recycling phase.
The platform will remain docked at the Port of Açu until the completion of the bidding process for its dismantling, a step that still does not have a defined date.

Recycling of Other Platforms
Petrobras, in its decommissioning plan, has already included the recycling of other veteran platforms, such as P-32, whose bidding was won by Gerdau in partnership with Ecovix Shipyard.
The platform P-26 is part of the revitalization project for the Marlim field, which will replace P-26, P-32, and P-35 with two new FPSO units: Anita Garibaldi and Anna Nery.
These new systems are planned to ensure greater efficiency and sustainability in operations, allowing Petrobras to maintain production with more modern equipment.
The decommissioning project reflects a broader ambition of Petrobras, which plans to invest US$ 11 billion between 2024 and 2028 to dismantle and recycle 23 platforms.
Part of these units, according to management, may be refurbished to extend the vessels’ lifespan, depending on technical feasibility and the associated costs.
Platform P-26
Platform P-26, a semi-submersible production unit, was installed by Petrobras in 1998 in the Marlim field in the Campos Basin.
Designed to operate in a water depth of approximately 650 meters, P-26 had a production capacity of up to 150 thousand barrels of oil per day and compression of about 2 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.
During its operation, the platform significantly contributed to national oil and gas production, consolidating Brazil as an important player in the global energy scenario.
