7,200 Baskets Will Be Donated to 2,400 Families in Macaé Through the Conectora de Oportunidades Project.
We know that the global crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has worsened unemployment in Brazil and increased the number of people in situations of social vulnerability. To support these families facing food insecurity, Petrobras has started donating 180,000 basic food baskets or food cards across various Brazilian states. In Macaé, since last Friday (1), 7,200 baskets are being delivered to approximately 2,400 families. The initiative occurs through the Conectora de Oportunidades project, and there will be more deliveries in the coming days.

Petrobras Invests R$ 22.7 Million in Donations That Will Benefit Not Only Macaé But Other Regions of Brazil
Across the country, the donation totals R$ 22.7 million invested and will benefit 60,000 families, who will receive the donation for three months. To determine the families to be benefited, criteria were considered for attending neighboring communities of the company’s refining and natural gas operations and the number of families identified as being in situations of social vulnerability, according to data from the Cadastro Único.
“We monitor the neighboring communities to our operations and have noticed the worsening difficulties during this still-critical period of the pandemic. We have been seeking ways to help alleviate the situation,” says Bianca Efrom, Regional Integration Manager of Social Responsibility RJ-MG-ES at Petrobras.

For the City Hall of Macaé, which was responsible for the distribution list based on the Cadastro Único for social programs of the Federal Government, “collaborating with Petrobras on this initiative aligns with the purpose of this administration, which sees solidarity as a mission that spreads and infects, making it increasingly a hallmark of the Macaé population, meeting the needs of those in more vulnerable situations while promoting a culture of welcoming and support during such difficult times as these of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Petrobras Has Also Made Donations of Diagnostic Tests, PPE, Hospital Equipment, and Fuel
Petrobras has been carrying out a series of voluntary actions to support society in facing the Covid-19 pandemic. For instance, in 2020, donations of diagnostic tests, PPE, hospital equipment, and fuel were made, aiming to supply ambulances, vehicles transporting health teams, and generators for public hospitals treating Covid-19 patients.
For 2021, Petrobras began donating 2,500 oxygen cylinders to benefit state health departments. So far, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, and Sergipe have received cylinders. The company has also invested in acquiring 12 micro oxygen plants to supply public hospitals, capable of serving about 20 beds of ICU each. The states where the plants will be installed follow the same criteria adopted for the donation of oxygen cylinders: having Petrobras operations and the criticality of Covid-19 contamination and mortality rates.
The amount allocated by Petrobras for these voluntary actions to support society in confronting the Covid-19 pandemic has already reached R$ 100 million. Part of the approved amount for carrying out these actions comes from resources recovered by Petrobras in a leniency agreement recently signed.
