Irregularities in the Construction of the Japeri – Reduc Gas Pipeline
In June of this year, the MPF filed an appeal with the Regional Federal Court of the 2nd Region (TRF2) to overturn a ruling from the 4th Federal Court of São João de Meriti (RJ) and convict Petrobras, Vectra Engenharia, N Ferreira Comércio de Caminhões, and their responsible parties for environmental crimes during the construction of the Japeri – Reduc gas pipeline.
The agency seeks to punish those involved for the deposit and abandonment of toxic substances and for ignoring environmental obligations related to the construction of the Japeri – Reduc gas pipeline in the section that passes through the Cidade dos Meninos neighborhood, which had an area contaminated by highly toxic substances from the deactivation of a pesticide factory in 1965.
