According to the state-owned company, studies are being conducted that address the hypothesis that variations in chemical composition may have impacted the sealing materials and lining of fuel tanks in small aircraft.
The company emphasizes that there is still no complete diagnosis that allows confirming cause-and-effect relationships, which requires tracking across the entire country. Nevertheless, the company has proactively decided to halt the supply of this fuel batch.
Additionally, the company stated that all imported batches meet the parameters required by ANP and that it has imported product available for immediate commercialization, thus maintaining supply to the market.
“The company reaffirms that all products it sells follow international standards. The aviation gasoline sold is pre-tested to ensure compliance with regulatory specifications. The company will continue to cooperate with the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and ANP. Petrobras has been importing aviation gasoline from the Gulf of Mexico from major American companies since 2018, when the unit producing the fuel at the Presidente Bernardes Refinery in Cubatão was shut down. The plant’s renovation was delayed due to the interruption of construction caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, but it is expected that production will restart in October 2020.”
