The sale of aviation gasoline was suspended by Petrobras in the country this Wednesday (3) after BR Distribuidora detected adulterated fuel

Petrobras preventively suspended the distribution of aviation gasoline (AVGAS) to direct customers and dealers after detecting a fuel parameter outside the specification limits, the company said on Wednesday.

Operators must seek workshop

According to the company, the problem was reported to regulatory bodies. The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) said it will assess potential impacts on aviation caused by contamination in the fuel distributed by Petrobras.

“With the information received from the aeronautical community and with the assessment made by the ANP [National Petroleum Agency], ANAC will be able to assess potential impacts on general aviation, gasoline and the fuel itself. If there is confirmation of contamination that immediately compromises the operation of aircraft, ANAC will act immediately in favor of aviation safety, and may even resort to precautionary and emergency measures”, said the agency.

Airlines will not be affected

Petrobras' decision does not affect airlines, which use kerosene as fuel. Aviation gasoline is used by small aircraft with piston engines.

“BR is initiating actions to collect the sold product, return the stored batch and receive new batches, and recommended its direct customers and resellers to adopt the same measures, in order to restore supply in the shortest possible time”, he said. BR Distribuidora through a statement, according to the newspaper O Globo.

Petrobras interrupts supply

Petrobras decided to "preventively" interrupt the supply of a batch of imported aviation gasoline after tests carried out at its research center, which also impacted BR Distribuidora and made the company temporarily suspend the sale of the product.

In a statement on Saturday, Petrobras said it had identified a batch of the product with “a different content of aromatic compounds than the batches imported so far”, although within the quality requirements demanded by the ANP regulator.

“Petrobras is studying the hypothesis that the variation in the chemical composition had an impact on the sealing and lining materials of small aircraft fuel tanks”, said the company, although with the caveat that there is still no complete diagnosis to ensure this relationship. of cause and effect.
