Petrobras Finally Sells Drilling Ship Vitoria 10000; According to Sources, The Platform Is Set to Go to Scrap Yard
The Brazilian oil company Petrobras has managed to sell the ultra-deepwater drillship Vitoria 10000 after its first auction received no bids. In March of this year, the state-owned company announced it would sell the vessel Vitoria 10,000, formerly Schahin, which had been the subject of a legal dispute between the two companies for a long time.
According to Norwegian broker Bassoe Offshore, the drilling ship was sold earlier this week for about US$ 15 million.

“In the second auction of the drilling vessel owned by Petrobras, Vitoria 10000, the highest bid was US$ 15.05 million. The name of the highest bidder has not yet been disclosed, but indications point to a sale for recycling purposes,” said Bassoe Offshore this Wednesday.
As previously reported, the company attempted to sell the platform built in 2010 in an auction in September. The initial minimum bid was set at US$ 47 million.
No bids were submitted, forcing Petrobras to organize a second auction, lowering the initial bid to US$ 5 million, with “increments” of US$ 1 million set between bids.
The Vitoria 10000 is 227.8 meters long, with a width of 42 meters built by Samsung Heavy Industries in 2010.
It can accommodate 199 people and has a maximum drilling depth capacity of 11,430 meters. It is capable of drilling in water depths of up to 3,048 meters.
However, if the Bassoe report is correct, none of these features will matter as the platform is set to go to the scrap yard.
