Terminal Client Since 2017, Petrogal Aims to Double the Number of Export Operations at Açu Port Terminal.
Operating at Açu Port since 2017, Petrogal has signed the renewal of its contract with Açu Petróleo (joint venture between Prumo Logística and Oiltanking) and will continue operations at Açu Port in São João da Barra until 2023.
The signing of the agreement ensures the continuation of oil transshipment operations at the Terminal and reinforces the operational excellence of the terminal.Açu Port to the World: Representatives Visited Belgium and Scotland.
The CEO of Açu Petróleo, Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, spoke about the renewal of the partnership, “The continuity of this partnership is very important for Açu Petróleo, as it encourages us more and more to maintain our commitment to operational excellence and an unwavering respect for the environment. Petrogal was the first company to operate VLCCs at our terminal. I am certain that this commitment, along with the predictability and security we offer in our operations, were key factors for this renewal.”

Meanwhile, the CEO of Petrogal, Miguel Pereira, talked about the company’s investments in Brazil, “Petrogal is the third largest oil and gas producer in Brazil and one of the global companies with the fastest production growth. Brazil is our main development base, which requires access to reliable, well-equipped infrastructures in terms of technology and environmental standards.”
The Terminal
With a draft of 25 meters, Açu Petróleo’s Oil Terminal (T-OIL) is the only private terminal in the country capable of receiving VLCC-type vessels, which have a storage capacity of up to 2 million barrels of crude oil.
The Terminal also has three berths and a licensed capacity to handle up to 1.2 million barrels of oil per day.
The Oil Terminal at Açu has been operating since 2016 and has conducted over 95 operations, but operations with VLCCs accounted for 40% of the total amount handled to date.
In addition to Petrogal, the terminal also serves Petrobras, Shell, and Equinor.
The terminal’s CEO spoke about the outlook for closing this year’s figures, “For this year, the forecast is to handle double the volumes of 2018. In addition, we are advanced in the development of the onshore tanking project, which, in addition to providing an optimization in the logistics of oil handling for our clients, will be capable of offering new services such as storage, dewatering, and blending,” Bomfim declared.
