The New Fiat Titano Pickup Is About to Hit the Brazilian Market, Promising to Strongly Compete with Established Giants Like Ford Ranger, Chevrolet S10, Volkswagen Amarok, and Toyota Hilux.

Initially slated for 2023, the new Fiat Titano pickup faced some delays, but enthusiasts can get excited, as the launch is now scheduled for the end of February in Brazil. This launch marks the entry of the Italian automaker into the competitive midsize pickup segment in the Brazilian market, a territory previously unexplored by Fiat in the country. With the arrival of the Titano, Fiat prepares to face heavyweight competitors such as Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Chevrolet S10, and Volkswagen Amarok.

Fiat Is Just a Few Steps Away from Entering the Pickup Segment

According to Fiat’s Vice President in the Brazilian Market, Alexandre Aquino, the launch of the new Fiat Titano pickup is getting closer, and the company is very excited to see more and more people falling in love with the vehicle. Soon, the model will complete the pickup lineup and enhance a legacy that is already priceless.

The rival to the Toyota Hilux originated from the Peugeot Landtrek, which, in turn, was a project of the French brand with the Chinese Changan. Peugeot’s original plan was to launch the Landtrek here, something confirmed by the automaker itself; however, everything changed after the merger with Fiat-Chrysler.

As a result, the decision was made to transform the pickup into a Fiat model, finally entering the segment here and becoming the company’s second midsize truck, the first being the Fullback, an adaptation of the Mitsubishi L200, sold in Central America.

The entire design of the new Fiat Titano pickup was presented in December when Stellantis released photos in Brazil at the same time the pickup began being sold in Algeria.

New Fiat Titano Pickup May Deliver Up to 200 HP

Just as Renault did with the Alaskan, which is identical to the Nissan Frontier, changing only the logo in front and on the steering wheel, the new Fiat Titano pickup is identical to the Landtrek. They simply removed the lion emblem to place the Fiat logo in front, retaining all other design elements, including the vertical LED line below the main assembly, part of the lion’s fang style that Peugeot currently uses.

This same story repeats in the cabin, with several elements in common with the Peugeot line, such as the shape of the steering wheel, which has a flat base and a wider center, or buttons shaped like piano keys.

This resemblance may be one of the reasons why Peugeot will no longer sell the Landtrek in the national market, as it would be difficult to justify having two practically identical pickups in the stores. One of the few remaining mysteries about the Toyota Hilux rival is its engine.

The new Fiat Titano sold in Africa uses the same engine as the Landtrek, featuring a 1.9 turbo-diesel engine with 150 horsepower and 35.7 kgfm of torque. In Brazil, everything so far points to the 2.2 turbo-diesel engine with 200 horsepower and 45.9 kgfm, shared with Stellantis vans, such as Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, and Citroën Jumper.

New Fiat Titano Should Cost Around R$ 200 Thousand

Another difference of the Toyota Hilux rival will be in its offering. Fiat is expected to focus only on double cabin versions here, as it has the Toro as a more accessible option, rather than offering a basic single cabin. It’s a rational matter, considering that the plant in Uruguay does not have very large production capacity and also makes other vehicles.

Regarding the price, considering that the Toro reaches R$ 212,990 in the Ultra and Ranch versions, the new pickup could cost around R$ 200 thousand.
