Have you ever imagined a tire capable of retaining punctures of up to 4 mm? These are Pirelli's tires aimed at SUVs in Central and South America. In addition to Pirelli, GM and Michelin are also working on an airless tire.

Pirelli has developed a new product that focuses on the main cars and SUVs sold in Central and South America. The Cinturato P7, Scorpion and Scorpion HT, names given to Pirelli's tyres, will be available in specific sizes and with a technology called Seal inside, which recovers punctures in the tires caused by a nail, for example, preventing drivers and passengers from being at a loss.

The Cinturato P7 is more geared towards all types of vehicles, unlike the Scorpion which was created to cater to drivers who have a fully on-road SUV. Scorpion HT, on the other hand, is very heterogeneous, where only 30% of its use is off-road and the rest is urban, being the coolest of the “family” of Pirelli tires.

The technology Seal inside allows the tires to self-seal in the event of punctures in the tread. This Pirelli tire technology is already being manufactured in Brazil, more precisely at the Feira de Santana factory, in Bahia, where Pirelli produces and also exports its products. Pirelli tires can withstand punctures of up to 4 mm, allowing the car to continue its course without the air in the tires diminishing.

Protection service offered by Pirelli

Pirelli also pointed out that those who buy tires with the new technology Seal inside they will also take, as a gift, the Tyrelife protection service, a program that replaces the tire in cases of accidental and irreparable damage for free.

Cesar Alarcon, executive vice-president and CEO of the brand for Latin America, stated that the new Pirelli tires accentuate even more importance of the region in the new world scenario, as a leading market for the company.

According to the CEO, in addition to bringing greater safety, the technology also increases the useful life of the tires, avoiding changes and consequently contributing to the environment. The launch of Pirelli tires took place at Circuito Panamericano, located in Elias Fausto, in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The site is used as an outdoor laboratory and has seven tracks for testing various areas, in addition to having a total area of 1.650.000 m².

Tires that don't puncture become a trend in the Brazilian market

In addition to Pirelli tires, Michelin and General Motors recently announced a tire that doesn't puncture and best of all: It's not inflatable. Last Monday (26th), the companies presented the prototype of the Single Puncture-Proof Tire System (Uptis) to the public.

In addition to having a robust appearance, Michelin claims that the tire is resistant to punctures, is made of fiberglass, has no pressure drop, does not cause impacts on the environment and even brings greater safety to drivers and passengers.

General Motors and Michellin have not yet detailed information about the product, but it is possible to compare it to tires created for vehicles sent to the moon.
