Offshore Support Activities and Strategic Location Favor Angra dos Reis Port and Itaguaí Port, Which Had Their Development and Zoning Plans Approved
Angra dos Reis Port, located in the center of the city in the south of the state, had zoning changes approved by the Ministry of Infrastructure, and this approval was published in the Official Gazette of the Union No. 115, through Ordinance 2,624, last Monday (06/17).
The Development and Zoning Plan (PDZ) for the Port was prepared by the Rio de Janeiro Dock Company (CDRJ), responsible for managing Angra dos Reis Port, with the collaboration of sector institutions.
Alongside the PDZ for Angra dos Reis Port, the PDZ for Itaguaí Port was also approved five days earlier. The approval of the plan is important because it is a project that will enable the optimization of use and modifications in the areas that include expansions of the port facilities.

The plan also brings development not only for the ports but also for the cities where they are located and is a sign of hope for job creation, especially in Angra dos Reis, where it has already played a significant role as a source of income for the population.
Another equally important function of the PDZ is to obtain more details regarding future demands and establish actions aimed at improving port operations, increasing the sector’s competitiveness.
According to the PDZ for Angra dos Reis Port, “Angra dos Reis Port has its main function as offshore support activities. The port is strategically located due to its proximity to the Campos and Santos basins, oil producers.”
Impacts on the City
According to the PDZ, changes in areas may affect the center of Angra dos Reis city, such as the São Bento and do Carmo areas that are expected to experience impacts within four years.
Changes in arrangements were also included, such as the addition of Multi-use Areas 3 (São Bento grass field) and the Non-operational Area, where the Justice Court facilities are located.
Private investments of around R$ 16.5 million are also planned, citing the maintenance of the draft of 8.53 meters at zero tide along the pier and, if possible, a deepening of at least 1 meter in relation to the current draft.
