The Retreaded Tire Offers Mileage Similar to New Tires, but at a Cost 60% Lower for the Consumer, Which Significantly Reduces the Cost per Km for the Transport Sector
Tires are one of the major factors responsible for safety and comfort while driving. In some cases, such as truck tires, their total lifespan can reach 300,000 km with retreads — but, for this to happen, the vehicle owner must take a series of precautions to maintain them.

Many Sectors of Society Already Prefer Retreaded Tires Over New Tires
The tire retreading sector has seen significant growth over the last decade. With current revenues of R$5 billion per year, many sectors of society already admit a preference for retreaded tires over new ones.
The retreaded tire offers mileage similar to the new tire, but at a cost 60% lower for the consumer, which presents a significant reduction in the cost per km for the transport sector, for example. The tire is the second largest cost for a transport company, second only to fuel.

In the freight segment, for example, the retreaded tire equips about two-thirds of the total vehicles in Brazil. Therefore, the relevance of the tire retreading sector for the economy of the transport segment is undeniable.
“Without a doubt, those who have retreaded in December or will do so at the beginning of January with an eye on 2022 are making a good deal. Tire retreading costs, on average, 60% less compared to new tires and delivers similar and often better performance than new ones. At this point, the consumer can bet that they are making a good deal,” says Gervásio Barbosa, collaborator at NSA Pneutec.
Sustainability – 79 Liters of Oil Are Used to Manufacture a New Commercial Tire, While a Retreaded Tire Consumes About 29 Liters
The growing concern for the environment contributes to the increasing adoption of retreaded tires.
For the manufacture of a new commercial tire, 79 liters of oil are used, while a retreaded tire consumes about 29 liters. For tires used in everyday vehicles (cars and motorcycles), the production of a new tire requires 27 liters, while a retreaded tire needs only nine liters.
“We need to put our commitment to the environment on the table, because when a used tire carcass is discarded, it can take up to 900 years to decompose in nature. Tire retreading guarantees an environmental return of 80% less CO₂ than would be generated by the production of a new tire,” Gervásio concludes.
Check Below a List of 5 Points to Pay Attention to for Proper Tire Care
“Tires are responsible for grip on the asphalt, meaning they are crucial for good handling and safety for everyone in the vehicle. Tire care should be frequent and not just when planning a long trip,” comments the specialist.
If the tires are in poor condition, they increase stopping distance and can cause skidding, leading to serious accidents, and driving with bald or damaged tires can also result in fines.
- Check tire pressure regularly;
- Be aware of the maximum weight supported by the tires;
- Avoid harsh braking whenever possible;
- Keep the spare tire maintained and inflated;
- Check for signs of tire wear.
Vehicle owners should also not forget about wheel and tire balancing or vehicle alignment. This maintenance should be done every 10,000 km driven, when changing or repairing a tire, when the vehicle experiences suspension impacts, or when the car is “pulling” to one side.
Founded in 1951, NSA Pneutec is a company specialized in tire retreading and the resale of new tires, being the oldest retreader in operation in Brazil, with 70 years of experience. To ensure the quality, standardization, and good performance of the Group’s products and services, NSA Pneutec is registered with INMETRO, which covers compliance certification for truck tires, buses, cars, light trucks, and their trailers.
