New 4.5 Km Bridge Will Be Built in São José do Rio Grande do Norte: Bridge Construction Linking Two Cities Promises to Boost Brazilian Economy After 50 Years of Waiting.

The construction of a bridge in São José do Norte – Rio Grande is closer to becoming a reality, a milestone awaited for over 50 years to improve connectivity along the southern coast. The Ministry of Transport confirmed the advancement of the project, which aims to build a new 4.5 km bridge linking the neighboring cities of São José do Norte and Rio Grande.

How Long Will the New 4.5 Km Bridge Take to Be Completed?

Currently, the only connection between the two cities is by water, via the Lagoa dos Patos. The new 4.5 km bridge will provide a land connection, integrating the BR-101 and BR 392 highways and facilitating transport and mobility in the region.

The Technical, Economic, and Environmental Feasibility Study (EVTEA) was completed in March 2023, marking an important step toward the start of construction.

The exact value of the new bridge project linking the two cities will still be determined with the publication of the bidding notice, but the Ministry of Transport projects that the bidding notice for hiring the implementation studies of the bridge should be released by the end of 2024.

The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) will be responsible for bidding and contracting the executive project, followed by the bidding and execution of the work itself.

The estimate is that the construction of the bridge linking the two cities will take two years to be completed, allowing the works to begin in the first half of 2027, provided that a budget allocation is included in the Annual Budget Law (LOA) for the year.

Understand the Impacts of the Bridge Construction Linking Two Cities

The construction of the 4.5 km bridge in São José do Norte – Rio Grande is part of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) of the federal government, reaffirming the commitment to the country’s development and infrastructure.

This bridge project linking the two cities promises not only to shorten distances but also to facilitate the transport of goods and people, enhancing the economic growth of the region and integrating the southern coast.

This project for the new bridge linking the two cities represents a milestone for mobility in the region, bringing significant impacts on transportation conditions, reducing reliance on water crossings, and bringing a new horizon for development.

The expectation is that the construction of the bridge linking the two cities will attract investments and improve logistics in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, supporting various productive chains that depend on land routes to expedite their operations.

Cities Could Become a Benchmark in Southern Brazil

If the schedule for the new 4.5 km bridge proceeds as planned, the construction of the bridge between São José do Norte and Rio Grande could become a benchmark in southern Brazil, as it will finally provide a physical connection between two cities historically linked only by boats.

For local residents and the logistics sector, the construction of the bridge linking the two cities is a historic achievement that promises to transform mobility and strengthen the economic development of the southern part of the state.

It is worth noting that other projects are growing in Brazil, and the federal government has greenlit the construction of a new bridge linking the municipalities of Guaporé and Anta Gorda, in Rio Grande do Sul. The authorization for the construction of this new bridge, which will be 90 meters long and cost R$ 6.1 million, represents a historic achievement for the region.

Só em projetos de viabilidade técnica já dava pra fazer a ligação a seco, pois desde o tempo da Dilma estão avaliando a construção.
