Rail transport is one of the most common methods used by the US to move M1 Abrams tanks. The tanks are placed on specially designed flatcars, known as DODX. There are two types of cars: one 54 feet long that supports one tank and another 68 feet long that can carry two tanks.
To ensure that the tanks do not move during transport, they are secured with wheel chocks and tie-down chains. Each tank is tightly secured at four anchoring points on the car, with 45-degree angles for even load distribution.
