Export 2022 Featured the Participation of the Port of Suape, Which Presented New Sustainability Solutions for the Segment in the Brazilian Market
The Regional Northeast Export Forum 2022 event, also known as Export 2022, was held by the organization Brazil Export and featured various representatives from the Brazilian transport sector. Moreover, the entire event was held in a hybrid format, with in-person participation limited to speakers, advisors, sponsors, and invited authorities and participation from the general public as listeners through videoconferencing online.
Thus, the Port of Suape held its presentation entitled “Energy Revolution and Green Initiatives and Their Benefits in Cost Reduction,” focusing on sustainability within the port sector through changes in energy consumption and supply. Additionally, present for the presentation were the port authority’s Director of Environment and Sustainability, Carlos Cavalcanti, as one of the speakers. The CEO of Suape, Roberto Gusmão; the Director of Business Development, Luiz Barros; and the Innovation Manager, André Lenon Silva.
Another point heavily debated by the Port of Suape regarding sustainability was the challenges faced by the sector to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations (UN) concerning the required ESG practices for operations. Within this topic, the construction of ships and other vessels that can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions was the main innovation point that could be adopted by ports over the coming years to support this initiative in the global market.
Representatives from the Port Complex Focus on Technological Innovation Linked to Sustainability Practices During the Export 2022 Presentation
In addition to the main topics on sustainability within the Brazilian port sector and how the Port of Suape can contribute to the environmental commitment, a major highlight of the event was the presentation of the Suape App, launched in January of this year, by the Innovation Manager, André Lenon Silva.
The application is the new bet for the local technological innovation within cargo handling operations and can significantly contribute to the segment, as it gathers information about maritime traffic, port operations, the relationship of companies installed in the territory, news from the state-owned company, and a range of other elements.
This application will also feature a technological innovation that combines these data with information about ESG practices within cargo handling operations, aligning with the main focus of Export 2022 for the port segment in Brazil, the adoption of sustainability in the sector.
Finally, in addition to the presentation from the Port of Suape, the Export 2022 event also included discussions on the following topics: “Investments in Rail Transport as a Factor of Economic Development,” “Value Chains and Structural Challenges for Cargo Transport in the Region”; “The Improvement of Multimodal Connections with Ports and Innovative Logistic Solutions”; and “The Importance of the Northeast Region in the Brazil Export and Portugal Export Context.”
