Get Ready! The Toll Rates of BR-135 Will Soar in April, with Values Reaching an Impressive R$ 61.20 for Extra-Large Trucks! The Increase Was Authorized by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Will Affect Drivers of Various Categories. Stay on Top of All the Details About This Adjustment That Promises to Impact the Budgets of Many!

Starting on April 1, 2025, drivers traveling on BR-135, an important highway connecting strategic cities in Minas Gerais, will face a significant increase in toll.

The adjustment was announced by Ecovias Norte Minas, the concessionaire responsible for managing the road, and follows the annual update stipulated in the SETOP 004/18 Concession Agreement, signed with the State of Minas Gerais.

The change will directly impact five toll plazas along the stretch between Montes Claros and Curvelo, in addition to the plaza located on LMG-754, near Cordisburgo.

The adjustment is based on the Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) accumulated between March 2024 and February 2025.

Why Will Prices Go Up?

According to Ecovias Norte Minas, the increase in toll rates is essential to maintain investments in infrastructure and road safety.

The concessionaire emphasizes that toll revenue is used to fund works and improvements such as:

  • Duplication of sections of BR-135;
  • Pavement recovery to ensure better traffic flow;
  • Construction of pedestrian overpasses;
  • Expansion of additional lanes in critical points of the highway;
  • Maintenance of services for users, such as towing and mechanical assistance.

Despite the investments, the impact on drivers’ budgets will be significant. The fee for heavy vehicles may exceed R$ 60.00, causing concern among truck drivers and transport companies.

Table of New Toll Rates

The adjustments vary according to vehicle category. Check the new toll rates table:

Category Value
Motorcycle R$ 5.10
Passenger Car R$ 10.20
Car with Trailer R$ 15.30
Car with Two Axles on Trailer R$ 20.40
Light Truck R$ 20.40
Medium Truck R$ 30.60
Heavy Truck R$ 40.80
Large Truck R$ 51.00
Extra Large Truck R$ 61.20

The adjustment could significantly affect the transportation costs of goods in the state. Truck drivers and logistics companies are already expressing concern about the impact of increased operational costs.

Reactions Among Drivers

The announcement of the adjustment generated reactions among drivers and transporters, especially those who frequently use BR-135 for professional travel.

“This increase will directly impact freight prices, and in the end, it is the consumer who pays. Each of these adjustments reflects in the prices of transported products”, stated João Martins, an independent truck driver who travels BR-135 weekly.

Another point raised by road users is the quality of the services offered. Many report that, despite the announced investments, there are sections with potholes, lack of signage, and structural issues.

“If the toll price goes up, the minimum we expect is for the road to be in good condition. But there is still much to improve”, commented Mariana Souza, a driver who frequently travels between Montes Claros and Belo Horizonte.

Impact on the Local Economy

In addition to truck drivers, the commerce and industry of Minas Gerais may also feel the effects of the toll increase.

BR-135 is an important route for transporting goods between the north of the state and the capital, Belo Horizonte.

With higher logistical costs, it is possible that products will reach the final consumer at higher prices.

Industries such as agriculture, which rely on road transport to distribute their production, may also be impacted.

The Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (FIEMG) has already expressed concern about the increase in tolls and its possible impact on the competitiveness of the productive sector.

What Does the Concessionaire Say?

In an official statement, Ecovias Norte Minas reinforced that the adjustments are necessary for maintaining the services and improvements stipulated in the concession agreement. The concessionaire also informed that the increase strictly follows the criteria established by the government and the concession agreement, ensuring that investments in the highway are continuous.

How to Save on the Increase in Rates?

For drivers who regularly travel on BR-135, some alternatives can help reduce toll expenses:

  • Route Planning: check for possible alternative paths that do not require passing through tolls.
  • Use of Smaller Vehicles: those who have the option to switch large trucks for medium ones can reduce costs.
  • Participation in Discount Programs: some concessionaires offer benefits for frequent drivers.
  • Carpooling: sharing costs with other passengers can be a solution for frequent trips.

The increase in toll rates on BR-135 is a reality that will come into effect on April 1, 2025. Drivers and transporters should prepare for a higher cost when using the highway, which may have direct impacts on the local economy and on the prices of transported products.

The measure, according to the concessionaire, is necessary to ensure investments and improvements in the road infrastructure. However, the financial impact on users raises questions about the quality of the service provided and the real benefits of these adjustments.

With the increase, the debate remains: does the cost of the toll truly correspond to the improvements offered on the highway?
