Funai Confirms New Public Competition For Candidates With High School And Higher Education. Announcement Should Be Made This Year.
The organization of a new public competition by the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai) has been re-confirmed by Joênia Wapichana, the president of the agency. The president confirmed last Tuesday (25) the expectation to fill 500 positions for high school and higher education during the second day of the Free Land Camp in Brasília (DF). The expectation is that the selection will be officially announced this Friday (28).
What Positions Might the Funai Competition Offer?
In addition to the new public competition for high school, the president of Funai announced that there is also the possibility of hiring more employees throughout the next year for regionalized and specific positions.
Wapichana explains that the projection is for it to take place within this year, provided that the presidency approves it and the Ministry of Management also makes it possible. There are over a thousand positions waiting for a candidate; however, Funai aims for approximately 500 so that there is service this year.

Recently, Funai confirmed the submission of a request to fill 508 positions, with 152 for high school and 356 for higher education. For the high school level, the request is for the position of Indigenism Agent. For the higher education level, the requests are as follows:
- Geographer – 4 positions;
- Economist – 24 positions;
- Doctor – 1 position;
- Statistician – 1 position;
- Sociologist – 12 positions;
- Engineer – 20 positions;
- Psychologist – 6 positions;
- Animal Scientist – 1 position;
- Accountant – 12 positions;
- Agricultural Engineer – 31 positions;
- Architect – 1 position;
- Archivist – 1 position;
- Forestry Engineer – 2 positions;
- Specialized Indigenous Person – 152 positions;
- Social Communication Technician – 10 positions;
- Dentist – 2 positions;
- Anthropologist – 19 positions;
- Administrator – 26 positions;
- Librarian – 6 positions;
- Social Worker – 21 positions;
- Educational Affairs Technician – 2 positions;
- Veterinarian – 2 positions.
Restructuring of the Career in the Funai Competition
Currently, a new career plan for Funai employees is being developed. In January of this year, a draft provisional measure was announced, which should be published soon, for the development of the indigenism career, to be filled through competitions.
According to the document, the career will have two positions: the indigenism agent, which requires high school education, and the specialist in indigenism, which requires higher education.
According to the text, the current specialized indigenism career will be renamed specialist in indigenism, and the basic salaries will be R$ 3,643.65 for the agent and R$ 7,503.14 for the specialists. In addition, the compensation will include supplements such as Basic Salary, Qualification Gratification (GQ), and Performance Gratification for Indigenous Activity (GDAIN). For agents, there will also be Specific Gratification for Indigenous Auxiliary Activities (GEAAIN).
How Was the Last Funai Public Competition?
The last Funai competition was held in 2021, where 776 temporary positions were offered in three positions in the ethnosocial protection sector, without educational requirements and for those with high school and higher education, with starting salaries of R$ 4,400.
The positions were distributed as follows: 605 for the position of agent of ethnosocial protection, 125 for head of the ethnosocial protection agents, and 50 for supervisor of the ethnosocial protection agents. The selection process was carried out in 8 states as follows:

- Mato Grosso (52);
- Maranhão (102);
- Rondônia (78);
