Now It’s Harder to Escape Traffic Tickets on Brazilian Highways! The Federal Highway Police (PRF) Has Started to Use Drones for Ticketing, Reinforcing Supervision with Advanced Technology on the Roads. The Measure Aims to Reduce Traffic Violations and Increase Safety on Federal Highways.
With the new system, the PRF uses drones equipped with high-resolution cameras, capable of identifying violations such as dangerous overtaking, using a cellphone while driving, and even heavy vehicles traveling in the left lane. This drone surveillance allows for detailed images to be captured, facilitating the issuance of tickets without needing to approach the driver at the time of the violation.
The drones are positioned at strategic points along the highways, operating between 10 and 20 meters high, ensuring discretion and efficiency in enforcement.
PRF Uses Drones and Increases Safety on Highways
One of the main objectives of implementing this drone surveillance is to enhance safety on the highways by reducing accidents caused by irresponsible behavior. The PRF believes that, in addition to issuing fines, the system will also have a preventive role, encouraging drivers to adopt more conscientious behaviors on the road.

Brazilian city gains industrial hub for 85 companies that is equivalent to 55 football fields.
States such as Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina, Sergipe, Paraíba, Espírito Santo, Bahia, and Rio Grande do Sul are already using this technology, which is expected to expand to other regions of the country soon.
Traffic Violations Caught by Drones
Among the main violations caught by the drones are drivers using cellphones while driving, prohibited overtaking in dangerous locations, and trucks improperly using the left lane. These violations, in addition to generating heavy fines, are the ones that most often cause serious accidents on Brazilian highways.
With the detailed images captured by the drones, it becomes easier for the PRF to record occurrences and issue fines fairly and quickly, without the need for risky roadside stops.
Technology in Enforcement Makes Highways Safer
The use of technology in traffic enforcement is already a reality in several countries, and now the PRF brings this innovation to Brazil. With the help of drones, the Federal Highway Police can monitor a greater number of vehicles simultaneously, with precision and safety.
The captured images are stored to verify violations, ensuring more transparency and efficiency in the ticketing process.
What Do Drivers Say About the Use of Drones?
Many drivers have already noticed the presence of drones on the highways and have mixed opinions. Some consider the initiative positive, believing it will help reduce accidents and violence on the road. Others, however, still have doubts about how enforcement will be conducted with drones and what the PRF’s approach will be in issuing fines.
Experts highlight that, over time, the presence of drones may positively influence driver behavior, making the roads safer for everyone.
