Project in Aracruz Will Cost R$ 2.4 Billion and Create 1000 Direct Jobs During the First Three Years of Construction

An old dream of the people of Espírito Santo is close to becoming a reality. Next Wednesday (06/05), the letter of intent for the construction of the first oil refinery on Espírito Santo soil will be signed, which will be located in Barra do Say, in Aracruz.
The ceremony will take place at the City Council in Aracruz, starting at 4 PM and will include the participation of the Mayor of Aracruz, Jones Cavalieri, businesspeople from Noxis Energy, and political leaders from Aracruz and the state government.

At the signing of the letter of intent, the transfer of an area of 300,000 m² for the installation of the refinery will be formalized.
According to Noxis Energy consultant and mechanical engineer, José Afonso Nóbrega Waescher, the construction of the refinery will create 1000 direct jobs, and once it is operational, the unit is expected to create 120 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs, always prioritizing local labor, he assured.

Another good piece of news for the people of Espírito Santo is that although the project is in Aracruz, the municipality of Serra will benefit greatly, since there are suppliers and service providers in the city capable of serving both the construction phase and the subsequent operation phase of the plant.

The Refinery

According to the Noxis Energy consultant, the refinery will have the capacity to produce 25,000 barrels/day, with 50% being bunker fuel used in shipping, 30% gasoline, and 20% S10 diesel, all with low sulfur content.

He also emphasized that all the production technology for the refinery is from France and the equipment is Japanese, which will generate a high-quality product.

The location for the refinery installation was strategically chosen according to the consultant, who stated that there are already negotiations underway with Petrobras and the state government of Espírito Santo to utilize the Transpetro terminal in Barra do Riacho, and there is also an intention to transport the production via railway to the states of Minas Gerais, Bahia, and to Espírito Santo itself.

Initially, there were plans to build the refinery in São Mateus, but due to logistical advantages, it was decided that the best location would be in Aracruz.

The mayor of Aracruz, Jones Cavalieri, also celebrated the agreement, as the refinery will be a benefit for the entire state.
The mayor also stated that “An investment of this size attracts others, generates jobs and income, which is very healthy, especially at this time of crisis.”
