Rio de Janeiro, September 6, 2022 – PRIO, the largest independent oil and gas company in Brazil and a pioneer in the reconstruction and extension of the lifespan of mature oil fields, will invest 1 million reais through a federal law of cultural incentive in partnership with the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra (OSB). In addition to the social and educational inclusion activities of the OSB, the Musical Connections program includes support for some shows during the artistic season.

The partnership proposal between the oil and gas company PRIO and the OSB aims for a Rio de Janeiro with less inequality and more sustainability, collectivity, balance, and awareness. In addition to culture, the actions that will be promoted by the Orchestra, sponsored by the oil company, are also related to education and environmental conservation.

“The Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra represents one of the many institutions of excellence that exist in Brazil and deserve more recognition. The country has a lot of potential and talents, including in this erudite and so complex art that is classical music, and we have one of the best levels in the world. We are very honored to support an institution with more than 80 years, which is a heritage of all Brazilians,” says Nelson Queiroz Tanure, Chairman of PRIO.

The Partnership Initiative of the Oil and Gas Company Will Last for One Year

The partnership made by the Oil and Gas company will last for one year, until August 2023. The project led by the OSB will support three musical education hubs in the city of Rio de Janeiro, impacting the communities of Guaratiba, City of God, Marambaia, and Penha, with instrument lessons, such as violin, cello, clarinet, double bass, and flute. Additionally, there will be performances of free classes and more activities with musical connections. In total, there will be 400 class hours. Indirectly, it is estimated that the social project of the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra sponsored by PRIO will benefit 42,000 residents of these communities.

Gregório Tavares, Executive Director of the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra Foundation, also states, “The support from PRIO is of utmost importance for the OSB Foundation because it enables the expansion of the Orchestra’s formative actions, whether through concerts or the free classes taught by our musicians to the students of Musical Connections, the social inclusion project through education carried out by the OSB.
