Privatization Eletrobrás

MP from Eletrobras will result in a loss of BRL 400 billion. According to Fiesp, around R$ 300 billion would come from increases in the electricity bill over the next 30 years

Fiesp decided to take a position on the text of the vote on the privatization of Eletrobras, which was discussed in the Senate last Wednesday (16). According to the entity, the capitalization cost of the state-owned company can raise the price of the electricity bill and generate billionaire losses in the pockets of Brazilians.

Privatization will increase the electricity bill, says Fiesp

Fiesp estimates R$ 400 billion in damage to Brazilians, of which around R$ 300 billion comes from increases in the electricity bill. “It is a monopoly market. Brazilians cannot change companies in search of a better offer”, says the entity.

Also according to the entity, the proposal to hire so-called inflexible thermal plants, which generate energy non-stop, could raise costs in tariffs by R$ 50 billion over a period of 20 years.

In the wake of criticism of the text of the MP from the industry and energy sectors, the federation argues that there will be additional expenses of R$ 30 billion in two decades with market reserve for small hydroelectric plants.

A fiesp also adds in its calculations, in this period, R$ 20 billion referring to the renewal of “old and expensive” contracts of generators by Proinfa (Program of Incentive to Alternative Sources of Electric Energy).”

Get a better understanding of the privatization of Eletrobras

The proposal, which was delivered to the National Congress by the Government, proposes that Eletrobras sell new common shares on the Stock Exchange and also provides that the Union has the right to a special share, known as the golden share.

The MP for the privatization of Eletrobras also establishes that the company will spend around R$ 3,5 billion over ten years to revitalize the São Francisco river basin and more than half a million for reducing energy generation courses in the Amazon and for the reservoir basins of the Furnas plant.

About the state

With more than 90% of its installation capacity from renewable sources and low CO2 emissions, Eletrobras is a leader in transmission and generation of electricity and is present in the electricity bill of several consumers, contributing to make it more accessible and cheap, and also contributes to making Brazil's energy matrix one of the cleanest and most renewable in the world.

The company also operates in the energy efficiency and commercialization sectors, in addition to programs such as the Light for All Program, Procel and Proinfa. In addition, the company has planned investments between 2018 and 2022 with approximately R$ 19,756 billion.

Solar energy may become the new option for consumers after the privatization of Eletrobras

In recent years, solar energy has been acquired at surprising levels and, increasingly, has been gaining prominence, and now that there is a possible privatization of Eletrobras, consumers' electricity bills have a great chance of increasing even more, making thus solar energy is the new option for consumers.

Consumers have already had some problems with privatization, such as during Fernando Henrique's government, when a privatization process was started and there were some blackouts.

However, this time it may be different, as consumers now have other options with the arrival of new energy sources, such as solar energy. With the installation of photovoltaic equipment on the roofs for distributed generation, consumers can save approximately R$ 2.700 per year.
