Brazilian Universities Launch Free Online Course Focused on Ethnic-Racial and Quilombola Education, Offering 7,5 Thousand Spots for Teachers and Basic Education Managers.

Education is about to take another inclusive and innovative step. Brazilian universities have just announced a free course that promises to open doors for thousands of professionals interested in strengthening ethnic-racial and quilombola education in the country.

With 7,5 thousand available spots, registrations are completely online and offer a unique learning opportunity in a distance education format (EaD), aimed at educators, managers, and other professionals in education.

More Than 7 Thousand Spots and Support from the Ministry of Education

The Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and the University of Pernambuco (UPE) have launched a joint notice offering the course “Training for Teaching and Management for Education on Ethnic-Racial Relations (Erer) and Quilombola School Education (EEQ).”

The program, supported by the Ministry of Education and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), includes the participation of the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ) and the Federal University of Goiás (UFG).

The course, which starts in February 2025, will be delivered in a Virtual Learning Environment (AVA), where synchronous and asynchronous activities will be conducted with specialized tutoring.

Divided into four modules, it aims to consolidate continuous training for teachers and managers in basic education.

The total workload is 120 hours, distributed over three months, offering a complete and accessible learning experience.

Registrations for the Free Course on Ethnic-Racial and Quilombola Education

Registrations are open until November 25 and are exclusive online.

Each interested individual must choose one of the universities — UFPE or UPE — and submit the registration through the corresponding website, where an electronic form must be completed and supporting documents attached, such as ID, CPF, proof of residency, and diploma.

Each university has its own selection committee. Thus, candidates must follow the entire selection process and results on the website of the institution they chose to enroll in.

Target Audience and Distribution of Spots

The 7,5 thousand spots will be equally divided between UFPE and UPE, with 3,750 for each.

The course is primarily aimed at teachers and managers in Basic Education, with the goal of strengthening anti-racist and inclusive practices in the school environment.

Interested parties are divided into three main groups:

  • Group 1: Teachers and managers from the public Basic Education network in service.
  • Group 2: Teachers and managers from the private Basic Education network in service.
  • Group 3: Basic Education professionals who are not in the previous groups.

The modules address relevant themes for the Brazilian cultural diversity, from a historical overview to strategies for democratic management for diversity.

Course Structure and Content

The course will be organized into four main modules, covering everything from historical introduction to educational practices focused on diversity. See the modules below:

Brazilian Ethnic-Racial and Quilombola Overview: an introduction to quilombola history and culture and ethnic-racial matters in Brazil.

Cultures and Territorialities: analysis of the cultural and territorial specificities of these communities.

Anti-Racist Education in Practice: practices and methodologies for inclusive and anti-racist education.

Democratic Management for Diversity: leadership and management strategies in education focused on ethnic and cultural diversity.

These units seek to provide a solid understanding of ethnic-racial themes and quilombola school management, encouraging an educational vision based on equality and respect for differences.

What Will the Virtual Learning Environment Be Like?

All content will be available in the Virtual Learning Environment (AVA) of UFG.

In this environment, students will have access to activities with flexibility, being able to choose between live sessions (synchronous) and activities to be carried out at the student’s available time (asynchronous).

Tutors will be available for support, facilitating interaction and resolving doubts throughout the course.

This online model allows learning to adapt to participants’ routines, ensuring an inclusive and flexible educational experience.

With technical and logistical support from the universities, the course reinforces accessibility for professionals from various regions of the country.

A High-Impact Course for Brazilian Education

According to the notice published by the institutions, the course not only promotes academic training but also opens opportunities for educators and managers to take an active role in the inclusion and appreciation of racial diversity in Brazil.

This distance learning model reinforces the commitment of the educational system to offer relevant and applicable knowledge, strengthening inclusive and anti-racist practices in Basic Education.

This initiative stands out as an essential tool to reduce inequalities in the school environment and foster more inclusive education, respecting Brazilian cultural roots. Click to Enroll!
