While Russia dominates the global wheat market, Brazil emerges as an unexpected competitor in the Cerrado, offering grain available in July and August when stocks in the Northern Hemisphere are at their lowest point of the year.
-
China returned almost 20 Brazilian ships with soybeans, but now everything could change: the country that buys 80% of the grain is considering relaxing regulations after impurities held up shipments of thousands of tons and caused million-dollar losses.
-
The drought of the cerrado was considered an enemy of wheat, but Brazilian scientists turned the lack of rain into a competitive advantage by creating a grain with quality that is already attracting the attention of international mills around the world.

THE OWNER of Brazil: a farmer who came from laundries, created an ’empire’ and today runs a company valued at R$ 42 billion after tripling its value in less than a year and receiving a billion-dollar investment from the USA.
The opening of the technical program took place on the morning of October 15, from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, in Auditorium 1, and will be conducted by Embrapa researchers.
Among the highlights, researcher Selmo Alves will present the StopVerme app, a digital tool that identifies cases of parasites in sheep and helps select animals to be dewormed, reducing costs and excessive use of medications.
Olivardo Facó will address the Feed Efficiency and Performance Test (PEAD) service, aimed at selecting breeders with better feed efficiency, while Delano Oliveira will show research results on diets that reduce gas emissions in goat and sheep production of small ruminants.
Sustainability and Genetic Improvement of Goats and Sheep Gain Space in Practical Workshops
In the afternoon of the same day, from 2 PM to 5 PM, the audience participated in three workshops at the Mart Salon of the Convention Center.
One of them presented the Forage Menu for the Semiarid, led by analyst José Wilson Bezerra, showing strategies for food diversification for herds, reinforcing the sustainability of goat and sheep production.
Another workshop, led by Marcos André Lopes, explained the use of the OPG test, essential for controlling parasites, one of the main sanitary challenges in the sector.
The third workshop, conducted by Lucas Oliveira, introduced the use of digital management tools for goat and sheep production that facilitate the monitoring of productive and financial indicators, promoting efficiency and traceability on farms.
These actions reinforce Embrapa’s commitment to modernizing the sector and implementing sustainable practices that value the northeastern semiarid region.
Animal Management and Nutrition for Goat and Sheep Production Will Be Highlights of the Technical Program
In addition to the workshops and lectures, Embrapa will also have an institutional booth, open during all three days of the fair, showcasing equipment, apps, and recent research that strengthen goat and sheep production.
The space will allow the public to interact with experts, learn about applicable technologies in the field, and exchange experiences on genetic improvement, animal health, and nutrition.
The AgroSobral 2025 is promoted by the Sobral City Hall, with institutional support from Embrapa, the Federal Institute of Ceará (IFCE), Sebrae, the OCB System, the Association of North Zone Breeders, and sponsorship from the FAEC/Senar System and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
The expectation is to attract hundreds of producers and professionals from the sector, strengthening technological innovation in the field and highlighting the importance of goat and sheep production as a driver of regional development.
