The journey began in 2017 with the creation of the diversity committee and the establishment of goals for female representation. In 2020, Diageo began to consider intersectionality, initially focusing on race, with affirmative actions aimed at Black and Indigenous individuals. The new goals were announced alongside other social and environmental impact targets in the ‘Society 2030: Spirit of Progress’ strategy, designed to create a positive impact in the world by 2030, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ambition is to achieve 45% representation of Black and Indigenous leaders by 2030, as well as 50% of all leadership positions occupied by women.

The policy applies to all types of couples and is also valid for adoptions.
